Lent is the period of time leading up to Easter. It is made of forty days (not counting Sundays) reminiscent of the forty days and nights of rain while Noah was in the ark, the forty years the Israelites spent in the wilderness, and especially the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. Lent is a time that believers have traditionally focused on self-examination and recommitment to seeking God in anticipation of the celebration of Easter. It is a time when Christians voluntarily assess the good and bad in our lives. We do this not to dwell on the past, but so that, just as the Israelites looked at the bronze serpent in the wilderness and lived (Numbers 21:5-9), we might turn to Jesus and know that we will live. Then, having taken an honest look at our lives, we seek to grow deeper in faith. With our fellow believers we come to church, look for opportunities for service, and practice generosity in an effort to more deeply establish a positive, lifechanging connection with Jesus Christ. This Lenten journey helps prepare us to celebrate Easter with heartfelt joy. After the self-examination and self-discipline of Lent we are able to more fully appreciate the wonderful gift that God has given to us in Jesus’ glorious triumph over the grave. So, this Lent, consider taking time to examine your life in the light of God’s love. Do not try to rationalize your actions or explain them away. Simply inventory the contents of your life, good or bad. Then take what steps you can to bring your behaviors and actions more fully into harmony with God and creation and to connect with God more closely. And finally, rest secure, knowing that God loves you so much that God sent Jesus to bring you through the trials of this wilderness and into the promised land. May God bless and strengthen you in this season of Lent. Yours in Christ, Pastor Mark Trinity Tidings Page 2 Holy Week Schedule The Holy Week Schedule is as follows: March Birthdays 1st - Jan Hepp 2nd - Adam Raeder Sara Stoddard 3rd - Teagen Stivarius Lilla Wierl 4th - Avarie Collman Jana Dierksmeier Jake Schulze Drew Stoddard 6th - Mia Bridger Bruce Bergum Dan Havens Katelyn Primmer Jason Teeter 7th - Brandon Behling Jacob Cromey Sharon Franks 8th - Terence Trevarthen 9th - Cheryl Festge 10th - Rebecca Henderson Amelia Jacobson Todd Larson 12th - Katy Jackson 13th - Lori Clark 15th - Paris Fullerton Kyle Templin 18th - Henry Johnson Amelia Kiefer Greg Renz 19th - David Fritsche Sue Hamilton Linda Zwicker 20th - Amber Ziebell 21st - Jason Ciesiolka 22nd - Wayne Naatz Ruby Stevens 24th - Kirsten Menzies Skylar Raatz Nora White 25th - Samual Anhalt Andy Bender Emma Neupert 26th - Brooke Behling Dee Hassler Steve Latsch Wayne Moehrke 27th - Lizelle Rebstock Drew Schoeneck 29th - Aston Enerson Violet Johnson 30th - Katrina Kube Marcy Mahone 31st - Nate Peters Lou Ann Ward Palm Sunday, March 29th 8:15 a.m. ~ Worship/Communion 10:45 a.m. ~ Worship/Communion Wednesday, April 1st No Worship/No YOW 7:15 p.m. ~ Choir Maundy Thursday, April 2nd 7:00 p.m. ~ Worship/Communion Good Friday, April 3rd 10:00 a.m. ~ Soup Kitchen 12:00 p.m. ~ Ecumenical Service hosted by the Lake Mills Methodist Church 8:00 p.m. ~ Tenebrae Service Easter Sunday, April 5th 5:00 a.m. ~ Decorate Sanctuary 7:00 a.m. ~ Sunrise Service/Communion 8:00-10:30 a.m. ~ Easter Breakfast 8:45 a.m. ~ Worship/Communion 10:45 a.m. ~ Worship/Communion Place Your Order for Easter Flowers We are taking orders for our Easter Sunday altar floral garden in honor of or in memory of loved ones.
