they must have the perfect greens, the perfect fruit, the perfect shake or the perfect weight-loss diet. As a result,
consumers are the frequent victims of misinformation wasting both time and money looking for the perfect food or
diet answer. This presentation will explore the realities of claims made for the best salad greens, current weight-loss
diets, and clarify what does and what does not raise cholesterol levels. Please register in advance.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1
Friday, March 6 @ 6:00 p.m.
The Frozen Thames by Helen Humphreys
(808.8 HUM)
Here’s a book for those who haven’t had
enough of winter. It features a series of
forty vignettes centered around every
recorded freezing of England’s most
famous river. It begins with the Empress
Matilda’s legendary escape from the
siege of Oxford Castle across the ice to Wallingford Castle
in 1142, then continues through 1814’s Frost Fair, and
the last time the river in the heart of London would ever
be capable of freezing solid. The frozen river underscores
the stories of kings, peasants, lovers, and children, all
affected by this singular force of nature.
Katniss Everdeen is in District
13 after she shatters the games
forever. Under the leadership of
President Coin and the advice
of her trusted friends, Katniss
spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a
nation moved by her courage.
Rated PG-13. 123 minutes.
The Theory of Everything
Friday, March 20 @ 6:00 p.m.
Nominated for five Oscars and
starring Oscar-winner Eddie
Redmayne and Felicity Jones, this
film depicts the story of the most
brilliant and celebrated physicist
of our time - Stephen Hawking - and Jane Wilde,
the art student he fell in love with while studying at
Cambridge in the 1960s. Rated PG-13. 123 minutes.
The Sonic Boom by Joel Beckerman (NEW 781.23)
Whether it’s the alarm clock in the morning, the car
stereo, a bird chirping, the jingle of an ice-cream truck,
or the white noise that permeates the remainder of
our life, there is no way to turn off our sense of hearing
entirely. Composer Joel Beckerman examines how sound
is the most subliminally influential of our five senses in
affecting the way we think and feel.
Vintage Fashion Complete by Nicky Albrechtsen
(NEW 746.92 ALB)
From Downton Abbey’s 1920s to Mad
Men’s 1960s, period television programs
features styles of bygone eras. This
large compendium of women’s clothing
features trends from throughout the
20th century, with one rule: it must be
timelessly stylish. Relive the decades with
feathers, flower patterns, knits, leopard
spots, buttons, bows, and of course, shoulder pads. Then,
accessorize in the second part of the book with hats,
glasses, sweaters, and shoes, before creating the perfect
hallmark outfit in the book’s final segment.

Stuff Matters by Mark Miodownik (620.11 MIO)
Mark Miodownik is a Professor of Materials Science (aka:
Chemistry’s hippie cousin). Each chapter begins with a
narrative from Mark’s life before segueing
into a different type of solid matter. The
book is also creatively arranged: the chapter
on paper is composed of an amusingly
exhaustive list of paper types (book pages,
wrapping paper, receipts, magazines, tickets,
bank notes) while other chapters, such as the
one about plastic, are written in the style of a screenplay.
Oh, and you will want to read over and over again his
passage about chocolate melting on your tongue. Maybe
we should even bookmark that page for you…
