The moment the General Body assembled on 9 March, 2015, NCP Corporator Suraj Patil wanted to know why the proposal for raising the emoluments of the school teachers was not put on the agenda. Sabu Daniel (nominated – NCP) was quick to intervene and ask why the proposal for the development of the burial ground had not been included. They complained that the ad- ministration is taking their suggestions lightly. Many more corporators, including some f r o m the opposition parties, joined in the protest and sat down on the floor of t h e house to record their resentment. Mayor Sagar Naik explained that both the proposals are ready; however they could not be put on the agenda as the Commissioner had not put his signatures on them. “The proposals will be included in the next meeting,” he explained. But the explanation did not satisfy the members who continued their dharna. Some of them also resorted to slogan shouting which gave rise to a noisy situation. Some of them said that the delay is tarnishing their image with the public. Considering the strong feelings of the members, house leader Anant Sutar said that the proceedings should be adjourned till normalcy returned. That too did not seem to satisfy the members. Finally, the Mayor adjourned the house till Tuesday. Vijay Chowgule to stay in Shiv Sena Party ranks swell as Sanju Wade and Prahlad Patil join it By Vijay Bhor AIROLI: By announcing that he will stay and fight the coming civic elections under Shiv Sena’s banner, former district unit chief Vijay Chowgule has put an end to a long speculation. Following differences between deputy leader Vijay Nahata and Chowgule, the latter has resigned his post as the Navi Mumbai district unit president. That had resulted in his getting further sidelined in the distribution of tickets too. Rumours had started running fast that he is about to join Bharatiya Janata Party. By declaring that he is going to stay on in the Sena, he has put an end to a long standing speculation. “I will stay in the party and also fight the election under its banner,” he announced at a public meeting at Koperkhairane on Sunday. He made the announcement in the present of Thane district guardian minister Eknath Shinde, Vijay Nahata, MP Rajan Vichare and other party leaders. Elsewhere, Sanju Wade resigned his job at NMMC and joined Shiv Sena. “I will contest municipal election from Airoli,” he announced. Every year 2 billion people, equal to one third of the world’s population, are infected with TB bacilli. Multidrug–resistant TB (MDR-TB) is a form of TB that does not respond to the standard treatment using first line drug due to irregularity in taking medicine. The names of the arrested are given as Hanumant Shinde (32), Santosh Rathod (26).Pravin Dalvi (22) and Babloo Yadav. They, along with three or four other members of the gang, had broken into a residential apartment in Sea View building in the wee hours of 3 March, 2015. They had tied the watchman hands and feet before breaking into the house. After the robbery, they escaped in a red tempo which had been kept waiting a short distance away. From the description of the culprits given by the watchman and on the basis of information collected from police informers, they prepared a sketch of the tempo and kept a watch on it. In the wee hours of Friday last, they saw a tempo answering to that description and hailed it to a stop un- der the LP flyover. It was occupied by four men who also answered to the description given by the watchman. Accordingly, they were detained and during the interrogation that followed, they admitted to breaking into the house and committing the robbery. A search of their persons also yielded items used in house breaks. The instruments and the tempo have been confiscated and case of robbery has been registered against them. A man hunt has been launched for their missing associates. On all the three evenings the hall was overflowing with people who thronged the venue half an hour before the discourse. Many even sat on the floor to listen to his eloquent description of Narayaneeyam. Not a single people moved from the seat till the end on each evening. Great Scholar Shri. Damal Ramakrishnan Swamy really drowned the audience in a sweet ocean of spiritual bliss. The beauty of Sanskrit, our priceless values in life, rich tradition and God’s readiness to yield to our bhakti were bought out lucidly by this great scholar. Slokas effortlessly flowed like the holy Ganga at Alaknanda from his mouth. If President Barack Obama is the greatest orator in English, then Shri. The first is the American model where every initiative on development comes from people – the capitalist private sector. Let us remember that the capitalists are a part of the populace. The second is the Chinese model under which only three classes, rather agencies, are recognized – the capitalist, the proletariat and the government which is personified in the communist party. Its unwritten commandment is that the worker should work or toil in order to earn a living. The proletariat workers are required to work either in the factories or the farms. That emphasis on work is what put the Chinese economy in top gear for a few decades. On the contrary, under the socialism – the third system – that is prevalent in India the proletariat worker is not compelled to work. His needs are satisfied with the generous free bees given by the government. The system has been at work for the last over six decades and the ruling parties irrespective of their economic proclivities, have bent backwards to satisfy the proletariat worker with more and more. The latest TV advertisement released by the government tells precisely that. The ad shows one of the working class men telling his colleague that it is only 15 days he has been attending a MNREGA work site and the wages have already been credited to his bank account! It doesn’t tell what work he has done or how much has been done! The previous UPA government went on giving so much that it reached the point where there was nothing left in the treasury to give. Former finance minister P Chidambaram admitted the mistake and that was the main reason for sending inflation zooming. At one point it touched 14%, admitted Chidambaram. Too many free bees will have two adverse effects: one, it was cause inflation and two, it will make the workers lazy. Such a situation was not sustainable for long. Prime Minister Nareendra Modi tried to change it all. During his long election campaigns, he emphasized only on one thing – jobs. That implied that one has to work and sweat in order to earn one’s living. People responded overwhelmingly by voting Bharatiya Janata Party to power. Surprisingly, the good man Arvind Kejriwal tried to entice the people of Delhi with too many free bees. He offered free water and subsidized electricity to major sections of the society. Whether such a system is sustainable will be known soon. People are bound to over (mis-) use water because it is available free. They will realize that their happiness is short lived when their taps run dry. Assuming that Kejriwal succeeds in arm twisting the union government to finance the free-water scheme, the happy days are bound to end because there cannot be enough water for everybody. Kajriwal and his voters will realize their folly soon enough in the same manner UPA stalwarts did it a few months ago. Incidentally, why not bring the national cleanliness campaign under the MNREGA? A hard fought win but a win nonetheless against West Indies. Despite having a galaxy of batsmen in the Indian side, it was left to R. Ashwin to provide resistance in the end to avoid further loss and win in a comfortable way. India also struggled on a pitch offering plenty of bounce for the tall West Indies fast bowlers and kept losing wickets during the chase before holding their nerve to get over the line with 65 balls to spare. Dhoni showed why he is known as ‘Captain Cool’ and topscored for his side, which was reduced to 107-5 at one stage. The right-hander added 27 for the sixth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (13) and an unbroken 51 for the seventh with Ravichandran Ashwin (16 not out) to take India home. Virat Kohli also contributed with a confident 33 off 36 balls and added a crucial 43 for the third wicket with Ajinkya Rahane (14). Jerome Taylor (two for 33) sparked the West Indies early on, claiming the wickets of opener Shikhar Dhawan (nine) and Rohit Sharma (seven), while Andre Russell also claimed two for 43. However, their cause wasn’t helped by conceding 19 wides, nine from Russell’s bowling. Such a competitive match had seemed highly improbable when the West Indies slumped to 85 for seven. However, a fighting half-century from Holder, batting at number nine, and some shoddy Indian fielding, helped revive the West Indian cause. Holder’s highest score in One-Day Internationals was just 22 until the West Indies’ previous match against South Africa, but made it consecutive half-centuries with some clean hitting. He was the last man to fall, caught at long on by Virat Kohli for 57 from the bowling of Ravi Jadeja (2-27), having faced 64 balls and hit four fours and three sixes. Holder’s recovery mission was assisted by India also by dropping four catches. Poor show with the bat in accomplishing the moderate total while chasing and the poor fielding standards came to view in an open in a league game. Jadeja dropped sitters to show that he is prone to pressure and failed with the bat at the crucial moment. CMYK Cont. from pg. 5 honored this great scholar. Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited and Union Bank of India sponsored the memorable event. Smt. Mohana Ramaswamy proposed a hearty vote of thanks. After pravachan on each evening the attendees were given prasadams and on the last evening VFAS surprised them by distributing sachets of sugar prasadam from Guruvayur Temple. Kudos to VFAS for hosting such a top-class program. About Narayaneeyam Srimad Narayaneeyam is an immortal devotional hymn praising the virtues and glories of Lord Guruvayurappan (Lord Krishna), composed by Melpathur Narayana Bhattatiri, a great scholar-devotee who lived in Kerala between 1559 and 1632. If Bhagavatha Purana (one of the 18 Puranas) which deals with all the nine major and a few minor incarnations of Lord Maha Vishnu in 18,000 stanzas is the fruit, then Srimad Narayaneeyam (which was condensed Bhagavatha Purana ) with 1036 stanzas is indeed a sweet juice. Though originally written in Sanskrit, this great epic has been translated in almost all major Indian languages. The name Narayaneeyam means “A book written by Narayana (the author’s name)” or “A book written about Lord Narayana the God”. The first 36 chapters dealt with various incarnations of Lord Vishnu, and chapters 37-88 deals exclusively with the story of Lord Krishna. Chapters 89-99 dealt with the extolling of Vishnu as a primeval God as well as several philosophical concepts. The last chapter is a mellifluous description of the Lord from head to foot. While reciting the last Chapter, Melpathur was able to see Lord Guruvayurappan before him and once he completed, he got completely cured of his disease. Millions of devotees in the past few centauries have benefited by the recital of Narayaneeyam and very many of them have got cured of their diseases especially those caused by Vatham (Rheumatism). There are very many commentaries available for Narayaneeyam in Malayalam, Tamil and English. There are also few web sites devoted only to Narayaneeyam. One of them contains, the entire text, with word by word meaning: www.narayaneeyam-firststep.org. The fifteen encroachers will face the MIDC and NMMC action any time in Pawne area. This is learnt from a NMMC reply to corporator Madhukar B Mukadam. The encroachers have illegally occupied a plot near Shiv Mandir in Pawne. Out of the fifteen illegal encroachers, one has constructed concrete work whereas thirteen have constructed formal slums and one has done the illegal construction with trees. They all will face the NMMC heat very soon. Replying to the corporator, the NMMC authorities said “The said land has not been handed over to the civic body. The land belongs to the MIDC. Hence the primary responsibility of the illegal encroachment removal is upon the MIDC.” However, the NMMC is eying the plot for future use. Keeping in mind the land to be handed over to the civic body the NMMC had acted against the illegal encroachers on 16 March 2012 and 9 May 2013. Despite the NMMC action, the illegal encroachers again occupied the land. The action seems to have little impact upon the encroachers. The NMMC says that the MIDC will be informed further to have a joint action against the illegal encroachment with the industrial body. Though the NMMC is looking forward to taking action again, the civic body election due in April is bound to make them go slow in this matter. After the election results the scenario may change depending upon the mandate. Whether the plot will be handed over to the NMMC by then is to be seen. Drunken brawl ends in murder Father-son duo land in police custody By Vikram Gaikwad URAN: A father and son duo have been arrested on the charge of killing a neighbor following a flimsy spat over noise. The victim, Amol Girijappa Bhalerao (30) was a resident of Bokadvira village near Uran. The two accused, Kisan Gagan Kale (44) and his son, Dhanaji Kisan Kale (22) also lived in the neighbourhood. On 6 March, the day of Holi, the two had consumed much liquor and were under its influence. Intoxicated Dhanaji Kale went home singing loud songs. Amol, who was a driver by profession, wanted to start work early the next morning and wanted to take rest but Dhanaji’s singing was causing his trouble. So he went to Kale and requested him to bring down the volume. That was disliked by the Kales who picked up a spat with him. In the course of the exchanges that followed, Dhanaji picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Amol in the stomach. He sustained severe injuries and though he was rushed to NMMC hospital in Vashi, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon. After the outrage, the Kales had gone under ground. Uncertainty still exists a decade after construction of houses at Varlipada By Umesh Parida PAWNE: The residential units located in Varlipada were supposed to be rehabilitated. However, years after the houses were constructed, no solution has been reached between the residents and the civic body yet. This is learnt from the civic body’s reply to the local corporator Madhukar Mukadam on January15. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporations official says, “As the chemical units were threatening the life of residents they had to be rehabilitated. The slum dwellers were to be resettled on plot nos C 498 and 505 measuring 5844 sq m. The NMMC had passed a resolution in 2003 to construct houses. Accordingly 70 houses were constructed by December 2005 with all the facilities. The civic body had held discussion with the beneficiaries in 2005 and 2006. The beneficiaries have been informed by the NMMC through registered post to take over the houses but they have objected to the same saying these houses are smaller in size.” He added, “Then Commissioner had visited the area in 2008 and had proposed for merging two houses to make it one. The NMMC general body had approved the proposal which would fetch more houses to the beneficiaries. The tribals again turned down the proposal. Then in 2009 the civic body issued notices to the tribals and thereafter undertook action to remove the encroachments. However the MIDC action faced stern opposition from the residents forcing the MIDC to stop its action.” “Following this NMMC has proposed to hand over these houses to the affected persons of Thane Belapur road side slums – Anandnagar, Turbhe Naka due to the road widening. The MIDC has agreed to the proposal. The Auditor General has pointed out the delay and the NMMC now seems to hand over these houses to the affected persons of Thane Belapur road side slums – Anandnagar, Turbhe Naka, etc.” he concluded.
