Jim Ries, Pastor jries@olfchurch.net / ext. 111 OLF is on Twitter “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies it produces much fruit.” (Jn 12:24-25) We understand the meaning of this statement in that the grain of wheat must be buried and in a sense die if it is to be reborn and to grow and produce wheat. That is similar to what we should have been trying to accomplish during this holy Lenten season. The term “born again” is a popular phrase in many churches, but this rebirth is also what we strive for in our Catholic Church. We are reborn in multiple ways — through Baptism, through our ongoing conversion, and through our daily efforts to be good stewards. Lent is, of course, the ideal time for us to seek this rebirth. Our efforts through the past several weeks should have been to bury our old self and to be reborn with a deeper sense of faith and trust in God. Easter is but two weeks away and Lent officially ends on Holy Thursday. However, it is not too late to rededicate ourselves to Godcentered lives. St. John Eudes put it this way, “Let us therefore give ourselves to God with great desire to begin to live thus, and beg Him to destroy in us the life of the world of sin, and to establish His life within us.” Read more at www.thecatholicsteward.com. Puede leer mas en www. thecatholicsteward.com 9am-12pm; 1-6pm 949-492-4101 w e lco m e to our lady of fatima parish MARCH 22, 2015 / 22 DE MARZO, 2015 f r o m o u r pa sto r , fr. James C. Ries Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/ Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima, I’m intrigued by the refrain from the song composed by Bernadette Ferrell: “Unless a grain of wheat should fall upon the ground and die, it remains but a single grain without life.” It’s an image Jesus uses to help us see that it’s through death that we find life. Ultimately this means our life with Him forever in heaven, but He wants us to experience this life now, today. Our baptism is a form of death. We are buried with Christ under the water of salvation to rise again to new life. We become part of the community of believers and as we grow we produce much fruit in the form of love for one another and God. As we continue, we must let our own will die and allow God’s will to grow and live within us. We do this as a family of believers. MASS INTENTIONS/INTENCIONES If we try it on our own, our life is but a single grain without life. A lonely difficult way to live. Let each of us die a bit more to self today and allow ourselves to live a bit more in our Lord. FRIDAY 3/27 Please see the newsletter for the Penance Services in our area. I will be at most of them. 8am 5:30pm Thursday Night Confessions at 7pm: April 23 (picnic tables at end of parking lot by the pier) God bless you all! Fr. When we choose to follow him, we must be willing to enter into his death – to give of ourselves to others just as he did without exception. Self-giving strengthens our fidelity as his disciples. Dying brings new life. When we give ourselves over to the cross, we too are glorified. 1.What troubles me about dying to self is ____________. 2.I am aware of serving Jesus in serving others when ____________. 3.To be glorified is to: ___________.
