Community Event
Join others with Parkinson’s Disease or Essential Tremor and
caregivers for an informational session with a neurologist,
physical therapist/Tai Chi for Arthritis instructor and a Yoga
instructor. Immediately following this session, visit exhibit booths
of support groups and pharmaceutical/biomedical vendors. This
session is provided by Mission Health Neurosciences.
Healthcare Providers’ CE Event
Join other healthcare professionals to learn about the current
treatment modalities and of the expertise that exists in the region,
including deep brain stimulation (BST), medical management,
specialized therapy and support groups. This educational
program is jointly provided by MAHEC, Mission Health
Neurosciences and CarePartners.

OBJECTIVES Upon conclusion of this educational activity, the participant will

interprofessional approach to treatment of persons with
Parkinson’s Disease or Essential Tremor
2. List community/regional collaborative care for persons
with Parkinson’s Disease or Essential Tremor
3. Cite evidence based treatment modalities, including
medical management, specialized therapy, or deep
brain stimulation for persons with Parkinson’s Disease
or Essential Tremor
4. Recognize ongoing and changing therapy needs for
persons with Parkinson’s Disease or Essential Tremor

Duff Rardin, MD is a neurologist with Mission Neurosciences in
Asheville, NC.
Anne Plyler, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and also a Tai Chi for
Arthritis instructor with WNC Tai Chi for Arthritis.
Ferris Fakhoury, is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga
Alliance, which acknowledges the completion of a yoga teacher
training with an approved Registered Yoga School (RYS).

Chloe Egan, PT, is a LSVT BIG Certified Clinician and physical

Beth Carver, CCC-SLP, is a LSVT LOUD-certified and a speechlanguage pathologist at CarePartners Outpatient Rehabilitation
Services in Asheville, NC.
Richard A. Lytle, Jr., MD, is a neurosurgeon at Carolina Spine and
Neurosurgery Center-Mission Neurosciences in Asheville, NC. Dr.
Lytle is board-certified in by the American Board of Neurological
Sciences and implants deep brain stimulators in appropriate
patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

or Essential Tremor
Physical Therapy: MAHEC as part of the NC AHEC system,
is a NCBPTE approved provider of continuing competence
for activities directly related to physical therapy. NCBPTE: 2.5
contact hours
Speech-Language Pathologists: MAHEC will issue certificates
of completion only; the participant must self-track and record the
certificate for ASHA Certification documentation.
MAHEC designates this continuing education activity as meeting
the criteria for 0.3 CEUs as established by the National Task Force
on the Continuing Education Unit. You must attend the entire
workshop to receive CEUs. 2.5 contact hours.

register to attend.
Early Registration Deadline for Healthcare Providers’ CE Event:
April 23, 2015
Early registration fee is $20.00. Registration fee includes
administrative costs and educational materials. If registration is
received after the deadline, the total fee will be the registration
fee + $15.00.
MAHEC has a pay-up-front policy for all CE programs. The only
exceptions will be for pre-approved programs where an individual
payment plan is appropriate. Registrations received without
accompanying payment will not be processed and participants
who have not paid the course fee will not be admitted into the
program.
Cancellations received at least two weeks in advance of the
program date will receive a full refund unless otherwise noted.
Cancellations received between two weeks and up to 48 hours
prior to the program date will receive a 70% refund unless
otherwise noted. No refunds will be given for cancellations
received less than 48 hours prior to the program date. All
cancellations must be made in writing (fax, mail, or email).
Substitutes can be accommodated in advance of the program.

From I-40 Eastbound, take Exit 50 and turn left onto Hendersonville
Road.
From I-40 Westbound, take Exit 50B and merge onto Hendersonville
Road.
At the first light, turn left into the Double Tree Hotel complex. Turn left
towards the Biltmore Village Lodge. Just before the Biltmore Village
Lodge turn right and go up the hill to the MAHEC Biltmore Campus.
From 19-23 (I-26) take 240 East to Exit 5B (Charlotte Street). Exit
right onto Charlotte Street. At the 4th light, make a left onto Biltmore
Avenue. Proceed through 8 traffic lights. At the 9th light turn right into
the Double Tree Hotel complex. Turn left towards the Biltmore Village
Lodge. Just before the Biltmore Village Lodge turn right and go up the
hill to the MAHEC Biltmore Campus.
