Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith. Easter Sunday 2015 My brothers and sisters in the Lord! Happy Easter! Easter Sunday is a day of faith, joy and rejoicing. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus which is the cornerstone of our faith and the most extraordinary happening in the history of humanity. For Christians, there is no other day that compares with Easter Day. All of our hope and happiness comes from what happened on that first Easter morning. By the power of God, the stone rolled back, the grave was found open and the tomb was empty. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, had risen triumphant from the dead. Nothing could ever be the same again because the pattern of human life was no longer limited by the cycle of birth to death in this world. As a whole new future, pain, despair, and misery were pushed into second place as a whole new future, full of hope and happiness of eternal life was opened up for us beyond the grave. Heaven and earth rejoiced in celebrating the victory of Christ over death for mankind. God’s love for us is made absolutely clear for us. Today’s gospel captures the excitement of the disciples on that first Easter morning. It gives a glimpse into their new found happiness as they hurried to spread this wonderful news, the Good News. Their hearts were filled with the joyful awareness of being God’s people. The joy the apostles felt is meant to be our joy too. A whole new dimension should enter our lives for we have been given this bright promise of everlasting life. Easter life is about the joy of rebirth in the Spirit of God and we don’t have to wait until the next life to enjoy it. Easter life is now. We rejoice because we realize that we are not walking the pathway of life alone. Jesus is with us every step of the journey as our Savior, as well as our Redeemer and Healer. He is there assisting us, encouraging us, and strengthening us for every task in life. Easter is all about the newness of life in Christ. The risen life of Christ is ours for the taking. The power of loving with the very love of God within us and we can fearlessly stake our lives on it. Each one of us is entrusted with the message of the good news of God’s love. Today’s feast provides us with the challenge of spreading the light and life of the Risen Christ with others. We celebrate this great day in our faith, let us truly realize that this is the day of the Lord and to rejoice in it! On behalf of Fr. John, Fr. Mauro, Deacon Antonio, Sr. Eileen, Sr. Diana, the Religious Teachers Filippini and the Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth and myself, we wish you and very Happy and Blessed Easter Season, Buona Pasqua, Maligayang pagkabuhay ni Kristo! Peace, Fr. Joe Update on work in Church These past weeks have been very challenging as we faced new issues with physical problems and repairs for our church. As many of you know, our skylight in church was compromised due to the snow and ice of these past months. The weight of the ice caused the Plexiglas to bow and crack, causing pieces to fall from the skylight. This proved to be a very dangerous situation. For the safety of all, the center section of the church was closed down for several weeks. As you can see, much of the colored glass was removed. The rest will be removed after Easter and we are in the process of deciding what to do. The skylight is original to the Church building and replacing it will be costly. We are in the process of getting various bids for this work. I will keep you posted of this work. The front steps of the church are also in dire need of replacement. We are in the process of getting bids for this work as well. Some steps are loose and very dangerous due to the ice and snow we had during the winter season. Work should begin in the next month or so; we will keep you updated as time goes on. We also have problems with our heating and air conditioning system. The heating part has been addressed; we are now looking at the air conditioning problems and, hopefully, parts will be available in time for the summer season. The church building is fifty years old and has been showing its age. All these problems cost money to correct and we have been depending on emergency loans from the Archdiocese to take care of these issues. Our responsibility is to pay back the loans and so I am grateful for those who have come forward and made donations towards these repairs. Again, if you can help in any way, please place your donation in an envelope with your name, address, and envelope number (if you have one) and clearly mark your donation for the Roof, Steps or Heating/Air. It is also important to indicate in the memo area of the check whether it is for repairs for roof, heat/air or steps so that your donation may be applied accordingly. Many thanks for your generosity, love and support of your Parish of the Holy Family. Page Three STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” - COLOSSIANS 3:2 On this day we thank God for His Son, Jesus, who died and rose for us. We celebrate and sing “Alleluia.” Let’s try to keep the joy of this Easter season in our hearts throughout the year! Pray daily and listen for God’s response on how we should use our gifts to fulfill His plan. FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION The Knights of Columbus have organized a First Friday Adoration in the Chapel, beginning on the First Friday at 7:00 PM to Saturday, 8:00 A.M. We do not want to limit the adoration to one of our Knights every hour, but would like to invite all the people of the parish to participate in this expression of love to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. You can spend an hour, or more, or less, with Jesus in the Chapel. You can visit alone, with family members or with friends. The love and adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will help our families and our parish to achieve extraordinary spiritual growth. There will be at least one person for each hour of day and night, but what a beautiful demonstration of love it would be if two or three, or even ten persons would come to keep Jesus company in the Blessed Sacrament every hour. After all, He is there day and night for our love. If you wish to participate, please call Val Frattaroli at 973-7594811 or Sal Bongiovanni at 973-751-4366, to let them know the hour you wish to choose.
