These posts are ideal for people wishing to gain hands-on experience of the orchestral music industry and considering a career in arts administration. ABO Interns have a consistent record of obtaining paid employment in the arts industry. Recent interns have gone on to be employed by the Academy of Ancient Music, Welsh National Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne, London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, while former interns have achieved chief executive positions with major music organisations. Unlike many other internship opportunities, the ABO internship programme provides contact with a broad range of arts organisations, access to training, and experience of a wide range of management responsibilities. JOB DESCRIPTION Specialist Managers Meetings / ABO Learning Assisting with administration and coordination of the ABO’s networking and training events including booking attendees, producing delegate lists and other event materials Attendance at networking and training events as administrative point of contact, logging the arrival of delegates, distributing name badges and event materials Administration Assisting with preparations for ABO board meetings with the opportunity to attend and observe Helping to maintain the membership database and inputting data Helping to compile the monthly member e- newsletter Update and regular stakeholder bulletin ABO News Assisting the Education & Youth Ensembles Consultant in sending out Education & Youth Ensemble bulletins, research and other administrative duties Assisting the Membership & Communications Manager with gathering responses to and collating member surveys Uploading information to the ABO website and monitoring the Jobs section to ensure job postings are regularly updated Assisting with member enquiries via telephone, e-mail and post Opening, sorting and distributing incoming post and organising outgoing post Booking travel, filing and other administrative tasks Benefits Hands-on experience of working in a dynamic arts organisation and exposure to the UK’s orchestral sector and wider classical music industry Opportunity to develop key skills including event administration and management, marketing, fundraising, finance and database management Opportunity to make contacts within the industry, visiting member organisations and attending key ABO events Participation in a range of professional development activities including the ABO’s one-day management courses in finance, fundraising and marketing. Careers advice including assistance with developing your CV, applying for jobs and interviewing successfully Membership subscription paid to Young People in the Arts Person Specification We are looking for a responsible and enthusiastic candidate with good organisational skills and a keen interest in classical music and the orchestral sector. You will be a good communicator with a pro-active approach and a quick learner able to work independently as well as part of the team. You should be IT literate with Microsoft Office skills and be willing to learn how to use new software. Employment details Office location 32 Rose Street, London WC2E 9ET (nearest Underground stations Leicester Square and Covent Garden). Occasional travel in the UK may be required. Office hours 30 hours a week, ideally Monday - Wednesday and Friday, 9.30am - 6pm, but this is flexible and at certain times when pressure of work demands, longer hours may be necessary, for which time off in lieu can be arranged. Reporting to Finance & Events Officer Holidays 20 days per annum pro-rata plus public holidays and the period between Christmas and New Year when the office is normally closed.
