International Fuel Cell Competition Guide International Fuel Cell Competition International Fuel Cell Competition Endurance Event Objective: Student design teams will construct a Fuel Cell car that can travel in a circle for as long as possible. Track Specs 3m diameter circle Teams must release car at the starting line Car must stay on track for trial to be valid (if car leaves the track, time stops at point of exit) Hydrogen must be stored in materials from the kit. Scoring o Design teams get three trials. o Final score is based on sum of the 3 trials. o Point total is awarded by judge determining the time and recording in the point box. Track Specs 3m diameter circle Teams must release car at the starting line Car must stay on track for trial to be valid (if car leaves the track, time stops at point of exit) Hydrogen must be stored in materials from the kit. Must use weights provided by judges at starting line. Scoring o Design teams get three trials. o Final score is based on sum of the 3 trials. o Point total is awarded by judge determining the time and recording in the point box. Endurance Track 0m 1m 2m 3m 4m 5m 6m 7m 8m 9m 10m International Fuel Cell Competition Accuracy Event Objective: Student design teams will construct a Fuel Cell car that can travel a specific distance. Track Specs 10m long x 1m wide Teams must release car behind the 0m mark Car must stay on track for trial to be valid (if car leaves the track, points are rewarded at point of exit) Hydrogen must be stored in materials from the kit. Scoring o Design teams get three trials. o Final score is based on sum of the 3 trials. o Point total is awarded by judge determining the scoring box and adding the total cm traveled from the line furthest away from the target; if vehicle lands in target square the points are determined by square where 50% + of vehicle stops - target square begins at 9.1 points; increases by a tenth of a point each 5 cm to center of target at 10 points; decreases by tenths beyond center. Accuracy Track 8 points 0 points 0m 2 points 1m 4 points 2m 6 points 3m The Fuel Cell Car stopped 57 cm beyond the 4m line; the point value for this trial is 8.57. 8 points Target 4m 5m 6m 6 points 7m 4 points 8m 2 points 9m 10m International Fuel Cell Competition Speed Event Objective: Student design teams will construct a Fuel Cell car that can travel 10m in the shortest time. Track Specs 10m long x 1m wide Teams must release car behind the 0m mark Car must stay on track for trial to be valid or exit track past 10m mark. Hydrogen must be stored in materials from the kit. Track judge will time the teams’ trials using a stopwatch o Time starts when car is released o Time stops when car crosses 10m line o If car leaves track before crossing 10m line there will be no points awarded. Scoring o Design teams get three trials. o Final score is based on the shortest elapsed time (best) of the three trials. Speed Track 0m 1m 2m 3m 4m 5m 6m 7m 8m 9m 10m The Fuel Cell Car crossed the 10m line at 32.34 seconds. The point value for this trial is 32.34.
