Program List & Additional Information:
ALL PROGRAMS & EVENTS SUBJECT TO PARK ENTRANCE FEES (Min. $7 per Vehicle)
First Saturday Concerts: Come and enjoy music the first Saturday of each month in the park with the Santa Catalina Mountains as the
backdrop. All of the concerts take place at the Trailhead picnic area. Feel free to bring a chair and your dinner and enjoy the evening
outside. Each concert will also feature a Food Truck from the community and free popcorn brought to you by the Friends of Catalina
State Park.

A Walk on the Wild Side: 9 am @ the Trailhead; 4/18
Come learn about the animals of the park, get a close look at the desert floor, take a "picture" of the park, and experience the web of
life on this family friendly nature hike. Featuring several kid and adult oriented activities, the program will last about one hour and fifteen
minutes. Those attending should wear sturdy shoes, bring plenty of water, and be prepared to "climb the hill" to the beginning of the
Nature Trail.
Bighorn Basics: 4 pm @ the Trailhead Stage; 4/19
A family friendly talk, focused on the Bighorn Sheep of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Learn more about these animals and their return
to this area through a fun and interactive talk given by Catalina State Park volunteer, Richard, a retired Ranger from Rocky Mountain
National Park.
Guided Bird Walks: 7:30 am @ the Picnic Area Ramada; 4/10 (Friday)
7:30 am @ the Trailhead; Every Wednesday
Whether you are a novice or a seasoned birder, come and enjoy the variety of bird species that visit and live in the foothills of the Santa
Catalina Mountains. Our experienced birding guides will take you on a walk through different areas of the park, helping to spot and
identify different birds. Prepare for a couple of hour walk by wearing good shoes, bringing water and a snack, and wear weather
appropriate clothing. Also, make sure to bring binoculars and a bird guide!
Guided Hikes: Times vary @ Scheduled Hike Meeting Location, Every Sunday
Come and explore the trails of Catalina State Park and the Santa Catalina Mountains through these guided morning hikes. Led by
Catalina State Park volunteer and experienced hiker Gaston, come and see the park in a new light! Hike difficultly varies; hikers are
required to carry plenty of water and snacks, and wear proper clothing, shoes, and hats. Please e-mail Hike Leader Gaston at the
following address, VHC.Gaston@gmail.com, for upcoming hike information and to register. Registration closes by 4pm on the Saturday
prior to the scheduled hike. Hikes are subject to cancellations or changes depending on weather conditions and hike attendance.
Romero Ruins Adventure Walk: 10 am @ the Romero Ruins Ramada; Every Sunday, Last Walk is 4/19
Come and learn about the history and mystery surrounding the largest Hohokam ruin site in Catalina State Park. This one-mile hike will
take you through the actual remains of the Hohokam village. Led by Park Ranger Jack, this family friendly hike is full of fun! This hike
has minimal shade; make sure to bring lots of water, a good hat, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.
Geology Walk: 8 am @ the Picnic Area: 4/19
Learn about the geology of the park. This 2 mile walk begins with an informative talk. The event lasts about 2 hours.

33 Annual Solar Potluck: 10 am – 6 pm @ Gila Monster and Flycatcher Group Areas, 4/11
Experience the flavors of solar-cooked food and learn about solar by viewing solar appliances, exhibitions, and solar arts. Listen to
speakers and musicians throughput the day. Actual potluck is at 5:00 pm. Bring your own oven. For more information:

Star Party: 7:00 pm @ Trailhead; 4/11
Starting with an event introduction by Jim O’Connor with excerpts from his book, Native American Night Sky Stories, featuring creation
stories from the Tohono O’odham Nation & Navajo people. After the introduction see planets, stars, comets, galaxies, and much more
through Astronomers telescopes. Event supported by the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association.
