Goat Canyon Trestle Hike Revised 4/9 South Anza Borrego State Park Completed in 1933 the Goat Canyon Trestle stands at 200 feet tall and 750 feet long. It remains to this day the longest, tallest curved wooden trestle ever built in the United States. Saturday, April 14, 2012 Optional Camping Friday Night April 13 Meet at camping/trail head area (detailed on the next page) at 7:30 am. Rugged hiking through a palm filled canyon and desert terrain. 6 Miles round trip with optional hiking to China Camp and Indian Hill. Expecting many flowers to be in bloom. DIRECTIONS from Carlsbad: Highway 5 South, to I-805 South, to 8 East, Take Exit 89 (Imperial Hwy also called County Hwy S2) North, Left on Nortero Canyon Road (dirt road, street cars ok as long as no recent rain) for 3.9 miles, Left on Dos Cabeza Rd (stay North of the Railroad tracks) for 1.4 miles, cross the Railroad tracks Highway and travel 2.1 miles to the campsite (called Mortero Palms). Detailed directions (including GPS points) on next page. SPECIAL NOTE: The camping area is also the trail head. Bring all your own water—no water available at Motero Palms or on the trail. OUR PLANNED HIKE: The hike will be a moderate to strenuous hike for 3.5 miles then an easy 6 miles to the car. This includes an elevation gain/loss of about 1,500 ft. The hike will take 5 to 6 hrs. TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Trail is rocky, so wear good shoes. Partial trail, some bouldering. RAIN: Light rain we will hike; if heavy rains the hike will most likely be cancelled. BRING: Hat, WATER (3 liters minimum), sunscreen, sunglasses, light clothing, rain gear, sturdy shoes, snacks, camera. RESTROOMS: No restroom or facilities at the trailhead. DOGS: No Dogs allowed.
