Your efforts, generosity and dedication help make our organization today a better one, our community stronger and our world brighter. Our lives are much like pages and chapters in a book. We keep reading and enjoying the best of books. I am proud of my career chapters in my own personal book of life. The last 40 years I have worked in several nonprofit and volunteer management positions that have included Public Housing with the City of Saginaw, Coordinator of Pride in Saginaw, Director of Saginaw General Hospital and Covenant Volunteers, and for the last 16 years it has truly been an honor and privilege to serve as your CEO/President of READ. My READ chapter has allowed me to work with so many wonderful volunteers and donors who are like family to me. I wanted to personally share with each of you that my future role with READ this November will be changing. Yes, this next chapter for me includes retirement. I do plan on continuing to work on a few special projects and will of course serve as a READ volunteer mentor. While I have very mixed emotions about this next life chapter, READ will always have a very special place in my heart! All that we love, deeply becomes a part of us. The Director Search Committee has met a few times since my retirement acknowledgement to the Board this past November. I am fully confident that the Committee will find an outstanding individual who will lead this organization for many years to come. We have much work to be done to continue our mission, in helping children discover the joy of reading and have access to treasured books. I look forward to my continued role in working with you! Enjoy your summer months and I look forward to seeing you in the fall. Carol Lechel Executive Director Spread the Word This Summer... + Volunteer Recognition The success of our program and our 50 years is really due to the new volunteers who join us each year and of course those that enjoy the program and keep returning year after year. Without each of you here we would not have a program. Congratulations to our 25 year and above volunteer mentors. If you or someone you know is interested in the position, please contact read.saginaw@gmail.com beginning July 15th for the CEO/ President job description or employment information. ...With the Spelling Words You know! Special thanks to Altrusa International of Saginaw and the Rotary Club of Saginaw for selecting Healthy Families America and READ as the proceed recipients for this year's Bee for Literacy event held on May 4. Our team Derrick Harge, Peter Bagley and Jackie Doig correctly spelled the first five words perfectly: motivate, regency, mesa, parentage, destitute. The sixth word "interregnum " was a little tougher. The team cheerleaders Kathy Rogers, Sara Larsen, Mary Goedert, Sally Nichols and Carol Lechel provided a few well received book cheer poems. 2 READ Association of Saginaw County________________________________________________________________ The READ Association of Saginaw County presents the 15th Annual Drop Everything And Read Wednesday, June 15, 2016 Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square 1730 S.
