AROUND THE LEAGUES
METROPOLITAN SUNDAY LEAGUE NEWS
Unfortunately December to February saw three more teams fold, one of which had
been with the MSFL for eleven seasons. The reason in all cases was the
unreliability of players which is a comment I hear from other clubs and not only in
the MSFL. Blokes in their twenties no longer seem able to go out on the razzle on a
Saturday night, get to bed by 4am, grab four hours’ sleep, go and play football then
have a couple of pints before crashing out in the afternoon. Not like the Sixties and
Seventies!
Despite some teams going there are replacements in the pipeline with eight
enquiries from clubs about joining the MSFL in 2015-16, five of which are in other
leagues. This is encouraging and I hope they all turn into definite applications, as it
shows that people think well of the league and know it is worth joining. It would lead
to our numbers getting back to where we want them.
As with all leagues, the weather has affected us adversely and we will need a small
number of double headers starting this month to help finish the season in
reasonable time. Our smaller cups are at the semi-final stage and arranged for
March so I hope the Finals arranged for April will be OK.
Golden Eagles FC, our last team in a County Cup, lost their semi-final of the London
Sunday Senior Challenge Cup from a goal in added time at the end of the ninety
minutes.
Cup Final appointments have been made but one or two officials cannot make
certain dates. We are switching them around as we want to use the original 16
chosen for our four Finals if possible as they were selected on their club markings
and general support for the MSFL.
We are always open to Bromley Branch members joining our Referees’ Panel.
Those not with us might enjoy the challenge of different grounds and new faces.

NOTHING TO DO WITH REFEREEING
A man sees a sign outside a house - 'Talking Dog ForSale.' He rings the bell, the
owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back garden.
The man sees a very nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there.
"Do you really talk?" he asks the dog.
"Yes," the Labrador replies.
After recovering from the shock of hearing the dog talk, he man asks, "So, tell me
your story."
The Labrador looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was
pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the SAS.
"In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with
spies and world leaders because, no one imagined that a dog would be eaves
dropping "I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years.
But the jetting around really tired me out and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so
I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at Heathrow to do some undercover
security work, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered
some incredible dealings and was awarded several medals. I got married, had a few
puppies, and now I've just retired."
The man is amazed. He goes back into the house and asks the owner how much he
wants for the dog.
"Ten quid," the owner says.
"£10, but this dog is absolutely amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so
cheaply?"
"Because he's a blooming liar, he's never been out of the garden."
Riddle from last month’s Peep
Q. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms.
The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns,
and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years.
Which room is safest for him?
A. The Lions that haven’t eaten in three years because they’ve died of starvation
AND FINALLY>>>>>>>>>>.
Ed That’s all for now folks but I look forward to seeing you on Thursday 19th March 2015.
