EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION: Youth Worker DEPARTMENT: COMPETITION NUMBER: APPLICATION DEADLINE: SALARY/WAGE: POSITION TYPE: ANTICIPATED START DATE: LOCATION: HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAMS HLP2015-02 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 20th,2015 $20.00/hr Term – As soon as possible WINNIPEG, MANITOBA JOB SUMMARY The Healthy Living Program is a holistic based program that focuses on fitness, nutrition and gardening for the students attending Aboriginal Community Campus at the Centre for Aboriginal Human Resource Development. The focus will be to extend current programs to early evening hours and weekends for students living in Neeginan Student Housing. RESPONSIBLITIES and TASKS − − − − − − Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in supporting the ongoing components of these programs. Assist with planning and developing fitness and nutrition programs to educate students on healthier living. Work directly with youth and adult campus students including the children in our daycare. Assist in the operations of the Learning Garden including daily maintenance. Supervise the students who will be assisting in the operations of the Learning Garden. Promote gardening as a family activity. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES − − − − − − − − Ability to learn new skills and responsibilities in a very timely manner. Be available to work Mondays to Thursdays on a variety of shifts including Saturdays and some week days until 8:00 p.m. Creative skills to design boards/posters throughout the campus to promote healthy living. Computer skills to record data for fitness assessments, scheduling, healthy handouts. Must have strong work ethic, good organizational, and computer literacy skills. Possess some facilitation skills. Effective verbal and listening communications skills when working with students and children. You should embrace a healthy living philosophy and be skilled at motivating and mentoring our students to participate and adopt a healthy living philosophy. OTHER REQUIREMENTS The successful candidates shall be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
