FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER (Internal/External Posting) BRIDGELAND CRISIS NURSERY 0.50 TEMPORARY COMPETITION BCN-2015-FSW Would you like to make a difference in the lives of some of Calgary’s children and families? The Bridgeland Crisis Nursery serves up to 14 young children in a beautiful Victorian style home with a modern kitchen, dining area, and outdoor patio and play area. This role works evenings and weekends. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 2 years related experience. Education in Human Services related field – Degree preferred. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Takes respite requests and crisis calls from parents offering supportive and non-judgmental assistance to all families. Over the phone, interviews the parent in an empathic and supportive manner to assess: need for service and current crisis information family’s strength community and family support risk factors child’s health, socialization development, cognitive and physical abilities parent’s ability to cope with crisis parent’s desire or ability to resume care of children Responsible for screening calls for the Community Respite Program and to maintain an ongoing waitlist for this program Interacts with children and parents during admission, discharge and follow-up and conduct direct supportive, educational intervention to promote family growth and change including solution focused strategies, crisis intervention and skill modeling and to develop services plan. Documenting all interactions with Parents and Professionals including goal setting. Completes pre and post evaluation forms for the Day Care Programs. Written Follow-up on the Child Care Placement with both the Provider and Parent. Shares relevant information and working in co-operation with Manager, Volunteer Manager, SPROUTS team and Supervisor, Child Support Workers and Community Respite Supervisor.
