Preschoolers must be bathroom-trained. ** Art Start - Explore and learn about some important art basics. We’ll create works of art that have lots of different shapes and textures, and then find out what happens when we mix colors. Instructor: Tami Walker, Cloverdale - Artist, parent, and elementary school instructional assistant. For those entering K-1st grade Fly Away with Me - Can you paint with a feather? We’ll create pictures and models of many different kinds of birds using crayons, pens, paper, clay, paint, and even feathers! Make a pop-up card that changes eggs into baby birds. Take a flight of creativity with me. Instructor: Renee Miller, Otis - Former kindergarten/elementary teacher, extensive training and experience in art education. Amazing Authors and Artists - Do you have an imagination like Dr. Seuss? Do you like to create colorful animals like Eric Carle? We will explore the art of famous children's books as we learn about color, line, shape, and texture. We’ll paint and print and create fantastic pictures in the style of our favorite authors. Instructor: Renee Miller, Otis - Former kindergar- ten/elementary teacher, extensive training and experience in art education. For those entering 1st-2nd grade Magic Paintbrush - There are so many interesting creations that start with a paintbrush. We’ll use tempera paint, watercolors, and acrylics while trying different painting styles and printmaking techniques. Find out what a jewelry loupe is and how to use it to see up close. Have fun with the artmaking process and watch the magic happen! Instructor: Linda Livingston, Depoe Bay - Former classroom teacher, 13 years as children’s art teacher. What’s in a Name? - Use your imagination to answer this question by creating beautiful artwork from the letters in your name. We’ll experiment with several different art techniques and materials to incorporate shape, line, and color into your work. Instructor: Tami Walker, Cloverdale - Artist and elementary school instructional assistant. For those entering 5th-6th grade Photoworks – Learn professional tips and tricks for taking amazing pictures using a digital camera. Make a statement about yourself and/ or your environment. Requires that students be responsible, have good listening skills, and can bring a digital camera to class (no cellphone cameras). Instructor: Nicola Harrison, Cloverdale - Fine artist and photographer. Water World - Using watercolor as our medium, we’ll review the basics, starting with 2-dimensional and moving to 3-dimensional artwork. Paint ocean creatures, then cut, fold, and embellish them so they can float in the air! Instructor: Sherry Patterson, Otis - Artist and art educator. For those entering 6th-12th grade Let’s Face It - You can draw a face … really! This class will focus on simple techniques for drawing and painting faces and portraits, using a variety of art mediums. We’ll learn how to include people in our artwork with confidence! Instructor: Sherry Patterson, Otis - Artist and art educator. A C Quilt 4 U - Students will sew up a storm making a personal quilt in one week. Learn to use a sewing machine or brush up your skills. We’ll design, choose colors, and sew quilt blocks with a nautical theme. Instructor: Denise Clausen, Sandlake - Quilter and calligrapher. Other Important Information Safety: Safety is a priority during Slug Soup. Students are expected to abide by safety rules announced on the first day. Thanks, parents, for helping to reinforce this! Attendance: It’s important that students plan to attend each day. Who may attend: Only registered students may attend classes. Students must be able to work independently of parents or grandparents (only background-checked Slug Soup personnel/volunteers are allowed in classrooms with students). Where to come: Nestucca Jr/Sr High School located in Cloverdale, Oregon. In the center of town, turn up Bridge St. At the church, go left and follow Parkway Dr. up the hill to the school. Cloverdale is on Hwy 101, 22 mi. south of Tillamook, 18 mi. north of Lincoln City. What to bring: Students staying for 2 classes a day should bring a sack lunch marked with her/his name. Lunch-time will be supervised. All class materials are provided. Wear comfortable art clothes! For those entering 2nd-3rd grade Forms, Figures, and Faces – Join the fun exploring a variety of sculptural forms. We’ll use all kinds of materials to create our 3-dimensional pieces, including found objects, wood, plaster, and air-dry clay. Instruc- REGISTRATION Class size is limited to 10, so sign up early! We’ll learn how to use shape, line, color, texture, pattern, and more, while creating paper mosaics, watercolor resist paintings, and monster drawings. Instructor: Nicola Harri- son, Cloverdale - Fine artist and photographer. For those entering 3rd-4th grade Painter’s Studio - Fuel your creativity with everything from acrylics to wax as we take a playful approach to making art. We’ll use some surprising objects on our paintings to create texture, and you’ll learn how to choose colors that make your artwork pop. Have fun creating your own art pieces and even painting as a team. Instructor: Shannon Passon - Portland-area artist, www.shannonpasson.com. Express Your Inner Artist - Paint in the style of the masters with different paint mediums. We'll use acrylics to paint on a tiny canvas, paint bags to take home our art treasures, create some optical illusions, make fish prints, blow tentacles on jellyfish with straws, and use painters' masking tape to create a beautiful birch tree forest.
