The Ocean and Sea Ice Thematic Assembly Centre of the CMEMS has been awarded to a consortium led by Met Norway. – Sentinel-3: 3 sensors dedicated to operational oceanography: SRAL, SLSTR, OLCI • Requirements for along-track SAR altimetry: OK • Phasing between A/B (and potentially C/D) not optimal for the Copernicus Marine Service: – Revisit time optimised for optical missions – Useless for altimetry (duplicated measurements) • Lack of Biogeochemistry In Situ data for calibration (by Space Agencies) and for long term validation (mainly by Services) – Access to Sentinel long term archive should be efficient enough for complying with the needs of the CMEMS reprocessing activities CSCDA – ESA/ESRIN 20-22/04/2015 Conclusions The Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service is now in place: – Continuity with former MyOcean Service will be ensured in May 2015 – Main Production Centres included into the CMEMS operational framework, through Service contracts (after open calls) – Other components will progressively be procured through open calls Both In Situ and Space data are crucial for Service performance (product quality, operational requirements): – Multi-mission concept – Core missions, reference missions, operational missions (Sentinel missions), but also third party and opportunity missions – Copernicus Marine Service requirements (from user requirements) to go through the EC+ESA requirement process for current missions and for future mission specification – The CMEMS will maintain a Space Data Requirement Document CSCDA – ESA/ESRIN 20-22/04/2015 Thank you for your attention marine.copernicus.eu CSCDA – ESA/ESRIN 20-22/04/2015
