mineral resources Commencing: Semester 1 or Semester 2 Location: St Lucia Delivery Mode: Internal, External AQF Level 9 postgraduate coursework programs in mineral resources To ensure commercial viability, the minerals and petroleum industry recognises the need for resource exploration and development professionals to keep abreast of modern developments in science. Use this program to expand your knowledge of emerging mineral and petroleum exploration technologies and how to increase efficiencies in the technical and scientific management of the mining industry. Advance your knowledge in key specialist areas of the minerals industry, gain analytical skills to enable you to critically assess alternative solutions to complex industry problems and be equipped to investigate and resolve development and operational problems in a safe and commercially efficient manner. Gain exposure to current scientific knowledge from research experts with an applied research background and explore a range of strategies for practical implementation from experienced industry associates. Specialise in Exploration www.uq.edu.au/study Geology or Exploration Geophysics, and choose to study from either a broad stream within the scheduled subjects, or select from specialist geophysics or geochemistry streams. To enhance the flexibility of course choice, some are conducted through directed reading and personal tuition rather than formal classes. UQ Advantage You will learn from some of Australia’s leading geoscientists and UQ’s industry specialists to incorporate the latest developments in research and technology into practical mining industry outcomes. Career Opportunities As an early career professional use your enhanced scientific and technical knowledge to seek advancement or additional challenges in your current workplace or to provide entry into the employment and career opportunities in the dynamic minerals sector. On completion of the program you may be eligible for membership with the following professional bodies: • Australian Institute of Geoscientists • Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists • Geological Society of Australia • Society of Exploration Geophysicists While this degree may be accredited by an official industry accreditation body in Australia, completion of the degree may not result in your automatic accreditation with them. Please contact the relevant registration body for details of any conditions for accreditation. Further study options include the Master of Philosophy. Program Structure In the Graduate Diploma, you will demonstrate your knowledge with a mini-thesis that relates to a practical workplace scenario. In the Master’s year you will write a complete thesis on a relevant area of interest. Each program is run over a standard 13 week university semester and involves a minimum of 20 hours of study per week for a full-time enrolment.
