WELCOME TO CRUNCH OUR PHILOSOPHY OUR HISTORY
WELCOME TO CRUNCH
OUR PHILOSOPHY
There are no judgments here: no too much or not enough–no glares of disapproval.
Here we keep open minds. We are nurturers. We seek only to encourage, empower and entertain.
There is no one type. There is no one reason. There is no one way. What we are is a diverse community;
what we have is a culture of fun; what there is, is room for everyone: all kinds of people with all kinds
of goals who’ve chosen to reach them with us.
Crunch. No Judgments.
OUR HISTORY
Of all the great histories of all the great health clubs, Crunch’s begins rather inauspiciously: in a basement level aerobics studio in
New York City’s East Village circa 1989. This, our first location, had no locker rooms, the air conditioning didn’t work and after hours
break-ins were perennial events.
However, while we lacked the resources to equip the gym with some basic amenities and strong locks, we were on an important
mission – to make exercise fun. Accomplishing this mission meant doing away with traditional notions of what a ‘serious’
workout should be. We invited a highly creative group of fitness instructors with a wide range of expertise to collaborate with us.
The result was the development of challenging programming with a completely fresh slant. Offerings like
Hip-Hop Aerobics, Co-Ed Action Wrestling and Cyked Yoga Cycling were introduced and, along with others, became the
embodiment of this new approach.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, even by jaded New York standards. Members embraced these new kinds of classes and
began to tell their friends about them who, in turn, told their friends who, in turn told their friends (and so on and so on).
Soon, lots of people were coming to experience Crunch’s unconventional new take on traditional fitness.
Fast-forward, more than two decades later, Crunch is still a gym that believes in making serious exercise fun by fusing fitness and
entertainment and holding true to a philosophy of No Judgments.
Headquartered in New York City, and co-owned by New Evolution Ventures (NeV) and private-equity firm Angelo Gordon, Crunch serves
over 200,000 members with both corporately owned and franchised locations (Crunch Essential) in cities throughout the U.S. and in
Australia. Crunch continues to expand across the U.S. and around the globe. In particular, Crunch’s Essential model
represents an incredible opportunity for those interested in owning their own business where the potential rewards are immeasurable.

FACTS
CRUNCH AT A GLANCE
Crunch is a collection of state-of-the-art health clubs that has championed the cause of making serious exercise fun by pioneering a philosophy of
entertainment and fitness. As a result, Crunch is renowned is renowned for creating unique programming that caters to an exceedingly diverse membership. While visiting a club is the best way to experience what it is that makes us who we are, the outline below offers a brief overview of all things Crunch.
GROUP FITNESS CLASSES
Every company needs a cornerstone and for Crunch it’s our innovative group fitness. We offer numerous forms of cardio, dance, martial arts, strength-training, indoor
cycling, action sports and wellness-based programs, including yoga, Pilates and meditation. All of these classes have been designed to be every bit as engaging
as they are effective. Some examples include:
• Pole Dancing – In this class students strengthen their arms and core while letting their inner temptresses come out to play.
• AntiGravity Yoga “Wings” – Members hang upside down from fabric hammocks and learn to combine the tricks of aerial performers with classic yoga
poses, as well as techniques borrowed from dance, Pilates, and calisthenics.
• Broadway Dance Series – Participants in this class learn routines from their favorite Broadway shows by dancing alongside actual cast members for
an intense cardio workout.
• BodyWeb with TRX® – Hang from the durable TRX® ropes to push, pull, lift and lower your body through Spiderman moves for a total body suspension workout that also super-strengthens your core.
• POUND® – Channel your inner performer and rock your body with this modern-day fusion of movement and music. Drum along to a slammin’ soundtrack
using Ripstix™ – weighted drumsticks designed to transform drumming into a kick-ass, fat burning, full body interval workout that will leave you dripping
sweat.
• Stiletto Strength – The original high heel workout that incorporates exercises tailored for the shoes of the season to improve posture and strengthen the
core so that you can strut in your stilettos confidently and injury free! At the end of class, put on your heels and show off what you’ve learned runway style!
B.Y.O.H. – Bring Your Own Heels.
PERSONAL TRAINERS
All Crunch clubs are staffed with first-rate fitness professionals -- personal trainers with certifications in a wide variety of specialties: strength training, yoga,
boxing, kickboxing, pre/post natal, kettle bells, physical rehabilitation and much more. Armed with all of this expertise, these trainers work to devise goal-oriented
training regimens for our members -- regimens designed to help them achieve practical objectives: lose weight for an upcoming event (wedding, reunion etc.),
put on muscle for trips to the beach, increase stamina for a marathon, etc. Also, because we provide opportunities for our trainers to earn additional certifications
they are among the most qualified working in the field.
EQUIPMENT
What would a gym be without stuff to lift or push or pedal? To be sure, all Crunch locations boast expansive selections of those things: from high-tech
cardiovascular equipment, including Precor Elliptical Trainers, Life Fitness Treadmills with built in iPod functionality, Stairmasters, Netpulse bikes, Expresso bikes
and recumbent and upright stationary bikes, to large arrays of decidedly tech-free free weights. Additionally, members have the option of completing a ‘tour of duty’
on traditional circuit machines from Life Fitness, Icarian, Hammer Strength and other leading equipment manufacturers. And, select Crunch locations boast harder
to find equipment: 40’ rock-climbing walls, full-sized boxing rings (and all of the bags you could want to hit: heavy bags, water bags, elongated Thai kick-boxing
bags, double bags and speed bags), steam rooms, and saunas.
PARTNERS AND EVENTS
Crunch health clubs are home to a unique fusion of entertainment and fitness, one that we have forged from our inception and continue to explore through a
number of different channels. From weekly live DJs and monthly parties to partnerships with BLISS Spa, Virgin America & major sports teams like the Brooklyn
Nets, we are always looking for ways to add value for our members especially when it comes to entertainment. In addition to partner perks like ticket giveaways,
flight discounts and bliss products in our locker rooms, we always find a way to incorporate partners in our workouts as well - whether it’s taking Center Court
Choreography with an actual Nets dancer or getting free Bliss products in your abs class. We also work to expand the member experience beyond Crunch walls with
events that take place outside of our gyms, like skiing, surfing and kayaking field trips, and our very own Yogapalooza, an outdoor yoga festival with live musicians.
What’s best is that almost everything we do is of low or no cost to our members and their guests- who are often invited to join in on the fun.
CRUNCH SHOP
You’re working hard to feel good, so why not look the part as well? With our Crunch Shops, we offer a variety of apparel and accessories that are both functional
and fashionable. Perusing the racks you’ll find a full line of Crunch fashion and exercise apparel for men and women, as well as athletic gear, yoga garb, streetwear and accessories from both Crunch and leading manufacturers like Puma, Nike, and Athletic Recon. Forget your socks or some other unmentionables? We’ve
got you covered! If you can’t get enough of the Bliss products in our facilities, you can purchase them here as well. Crunch Shops also offer videos and DVD’s
of our classes for members who would like to enjoy one of our great workouts at home. Additionally, we offer products to enhance your workouts such as protein
supplements, Trigger Point Foam Rollers, TRX Bands, and more. It’s okay you can get excited - we like our toys too.
