The school and staff greeted the them with flowers. Director of the school Amanpreet Singh Arora welcomed the mothers and apprised them of the importance of a mother in the life of a child. He said the mother stood by her children through thick and thin. Veena Bedi, councillor of Ward No. 57, was the guest of honour on the occasion. Children presented a dance, which made the mothers emotional. The decoration and arrangements brought alive the mood of celebrations. Gifts were distributed to the winners. Tiny tots of Pre-Nursery, Nursery, LKG and UKG presented handmade photo frames to their mothers as a token of love. The school organised an interactive session for the mothers with Dr Vidushi Singhal, dermatologist from the DMCH. The school also organised a fancy dress competition for the mothers, which was followed by fun-filling “Super Mom” and dessertmaking competitions. GGN Public School Mother’s Day was celebrated with a lot of zeal at GGN Public School, Rose Garden. A large number of children and their mothers participated in the fun-packed celebrations. The tiny tots presented action songs, dance and recited poems to mark the day. The most interesting part of the show was when all happy-looking mothers participated in rangoli, art and craft, calligraphy competitions besides games such as tongue twister, heap up the coins and blindfold. Highlighting the significance of the day, the Director Principal, Karnail Singh, said a mother was the first teacher and guide of a child whose love and blessings nourished the child into a good human being. The mothers entertained their wards and mesmerised the audience with their captivating dance performances. HVM Convent Senior Secondary School HVM Convent Senior Secondary School, Basti Jodhewal, celebrated Mother’s Day with enthusiasm. A special assembly was organised at the school. Enthusiasm and zeal marked the celebrations. The celebrations commenced with the Gayatri Mantra. The school choir presented Rabindra Sangeet. This was followed by a speech by Aalamnoor Singh of Class X-B enlightening the students on the Nobel Laureate’s contribution as a poet, philosopher, playwright, painter and as an educationist. Muskaan Bakshi of Class XI-D presented an immaculate rendition of Tagore’s poetry ‘Gitanjali’. Gender sensitisation Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bypass, organised a workshop on the theme, Gender Sensitisation, for the students of Class XII. A thought-provoking Power Point presentation highlighted the need for awareness on the issue. The chairmancum-director of the chain of Green Land Schools, Rajesh Rudhra, appreciated the role played by girls and educationists in moulding the conservative outlook of society. The Principal, Baldeep Pandher, encouraged the students to be the torchbearers for posterity. Workshop held Students of Ryan International School, Dugri, attended a rocketry workshop organised by Aman Mittal, head of Space Pun- jab, and Avnoor Singh, a space educator. Students tried their hand in making launch models. Students were divided into three groups, primary, middle and senior. Primary students made poprockets, middle students prepared air rockets and senior students made hydro rockets. Headmistress of the school Ritu Syal thanked space organisers for making the session interactive and lively. — TNS Students excel Students of Masters in Fashion Designing and Management (3rd semester) of Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women have given excellent performance in the December 2014 examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. All students got the first division. Manpreet Kaur stood first in the university by securing 85.83% marks. Gurpreet secured the 2nd position in the university with 83.6% marks. Babita Rani secured the 3rd position with 75.83% marks. GHG Khalsa College Students of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, brought laurels in the recently declared result of MCom (1st semester). Of 38 students who appeared for the examinations, 24 got the first division while 14 were secured the second division. The overall result of the college was 100%. Rajni Bala, a student of the college, got the first position by securing 555 while Manvir Kaur and Parveen Goyal got the second and third positions by securing 535 and 532 marks respectively. Manjit Singh Gill, president, Governing Council of GHG Khalsa Institutions, congratulated Principal SS Deol and applauded the students and the staff for their dedicated hard work. — TNS
