SUITABILITY TO ROLE
A competent and adaptable skill-set alongside a great deal of experience working in the education and commercial
training sectors. Together with the ability and confidence to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplainary
team makes me an ideal candidate in the role of e-learning content developer.
I have a passion for building high-quality engaging learning materials, employing rich-pictures, infographics, storytelling,
animations and videos, and branching activity exercises to bring otherwise dull content to life. I am well-versed in
creating visually-rich and interactive e-learning content as well as graphical user interfaces.
OPPORTUNITY
Over the last two years I have been working on a freelance casual part-time basis providing the flexibility needed to fulfil
child-caring responsibilities and to spend time with my young child before beginning school. Having now returned to fulltime work with a successful 3 month contract completed at The Pensions Regulator (UK government) I am once again
looking for new opportunities.
I am in search of e-learning/training opportunities as an e-learning content developer or as a basic-level instructional
designer. The advanced graphics and layout skills I have together with a flair for design are just as applicable in other
roles as a presentation designer, rich-infographic designer and website content developer. Ideally I’m looking for
contract-based work, although not exclusively so, and preferably located in London, the SW, or South Wales. My
availability to start is immediate.
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
As a learning technology based multimedia developer who has worked in e-learning and training for over twelve years’ I
have accumulated a wealth of valuable experience and built a skillset that is both adaptable and highly-valued. I have
worked in the private sector creating compliance and regulatory-based courses in sales, marketing, technical,
manufacturing, and health and safety. I have also worked in education for seven years creating and repurposing under
and post graduate support materials, during which time I rose to the position of senior multimedia developer.
I possess a proven track record of using industry standard tools (graphics and e-learning software) and techniques
(methodologies and workflows) including experience of using rapid-development authoring tools that are in widespread
use today (Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate). I am also technically proficient in coding complex interactive media
elements with Flash ActionScript using it to create game-based learning and machine simulations. I have a solid
understanding of the technical aspects of e-learning development used in the industry today such as standards
compliance (SCORM) learning objects (LO’s), and configuring/administering learning management systems (LMS’s). I am
able to create and upload Moodle based quizzes and assessments as well as administer gradebooks.
Particularly of value and unusually so for an e-learning content developer (we normally only deal with technical
development) is my understanding of e-learning theory. Knowledge of cognitive learning principles and how best to
incorporate them in to multimedia elements provides me with a basis to better undestand the specifications coming
from the learning designer (instructional designer). This provides a real advantage of allowing a higher degree of working
independently by reducing the number of clarification-type questions usually needed with the learning designer.
Experience shows this to be a really valuable skill which is effective in minimising the content development production
time/costs. I have also been working hard studying learning design with a view to ultimately becoming an instructional
designer. I feel sufficiently confident that I could carry out basic-level instructional design. The ability to bridge the gap
between learning design and technical development is a substantial asset and a skill rarely found in the role of an elearning content developer.
As well as being comfortable liaising with subject matter experts and stakeholders to scope out content and design
needs, I am also able to use my extensive experience to contribute valuable advice, insights and creative ideas at the
learning design stage as well as in the content development stage.
In the role of managing a team of developers working on multiple projects, I have hands-on experience of planning, coordinating, and managing the media development process including reporting progress and raising issues. I am
comfortable in both working individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and in building positive internal and
external relationships.
