Saturday 30 May, 6.30pm
Gulkula site, east arnhem land
The DSO presents Territorians with some of the world’s most adored opera
highlights performed by some of the nation’s leading vocal talent. Join the
DSO in the unique setting of Gulkula Site, East Arnhem Land as we perform
for you the music of Puccini, Strauss, Gounod and Rodgers & Hammerstein.
The evening will also highlight music from Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers.
Set in ancient times on the island of Ceylon, The Pearl Fishers tells the story
of how two men’s vow of eternal friendship is threatened by their love for the
same woman. The friendship duet, known as The Pearl Fishers Duet, is one of
the most famous duets from the operatic repertoire.
Our guest artists for the evening include Lorina Gore, one of Australia’s
leading sopranos, David Hobson who made his name as the tenor in an award
winning performance for Opera Australia’s La Boheme and returning to the
DSO after his stellar performance in last year’s Opera Gala, one of Australia’s
leading baritones, Andrew Jones.
Conducting this evening’s performance and returning to the Northern
Territory from his recent work at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, is
the DSO Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Matthew Wood.
