BJP had taken potshots at the UPA regime, saying though there were dual power centres, Gandhi called the shots and Singh only followed directions from her. Showering praises on Modi as the NDA government led by him completed one year in office today, Jaitley said, “after Modi be- P-3 e-mail: editor.earthnews@gmail.com SCIENCE&TECHNOLOGY came Prime Minister, the country is in the direction of creating a new history.” “As Chief minister of Gujarat for 13 years, Modi had developed it as a model state and made progress on all fronts. Similar type of development will take place under his direction in the entire country,” Jaitley said while addressing a gathering in Vadodara district’s Karnali village, which he has adopted. Before Modi came to power, the country’s economic condition was poor and no development was taking place, he said. “However, after Modi came to power, the image of the country has improved, India’s respect Contd on Page 2 Yash Birla, 7 others on Swiss list for tax evasion AGENCIES, MAY 26|15 Berne: Industrialist Yash Birla and son-in-law of late realty and liquor baron Ponty Chadha are among seven Indians with Swiss bank accounts whose names have been made public in Switzerland’s official gazette with regard to ongoing tax probes against them in India. The senior BJP leader said that the party requires 370 MPs, two-third majority, to implement them. Speaking about the one-year tenure of the NDA government, he said that the government has brought the country out of policy paralysis. “The government has come out of policy paralysis. If there BJP facing second AIIMS for Jammu: Several outfits bandh in 100 days! call Jammu bandh today The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) always used to say that it was in politics for principles. That it had an agenda in Jammu and Kashmir and pursue it regardless. And people believed it. They had faith in the party. In politics, pursuit of power is the thing uppermost in the mind of any, and every, politician, and political party. Whatever politicians may say, they want to attain power and then stick to it. Politicians, particularly when they are in opposition, give high voltage speeches, based on so-called principles. But once in power, the same very principles they talked of earlier, almost always look alien, descended as if from another planet. Talking of principles looks like an attempt to hoodwink the common masses, and politicians often succeed in winning them over for their professed cause. In this case, the party being talked of is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which always professed to champion the cause of Jammu. Professed? Because it no longer looks like a champion of the Jammu cause/s. It looks to be a party which has forsaken all its ``so-called’’ Jammu-centric ideology. It appears more keen on appeasing Kashmiris, and sacrificing Jammu itself! All for staying in power which it has got into in the state for the first time. Public anger against it is simJammu, May 26 |15: is a problem, then the government proactively, if required, makes changes in policies,” he said while addressing media at the BJP headquarters in the national capital. Shah added that after Narendra Modi became prime minister, he has restored the credibility of the PMO. “The country did not have faith in the previous government. The trust deficit is over now. Now, the world is acknowledging and watching India’s progress.” He said that the NDA government is a visible government and is more “proactive” than even the media. It is not ready to forgive the BJP leaders, and ministers, for having sacrificed their interests. The public was definitely expecting the BJP to do better than this. The ordinary people in Jammu remained steadfast in their support of the BJP, and its earlier avatar, the Praja Parishad. This despite the fact that they had to face deprivations for their beliefs. They were always discriminated against when it came to establishing government institutions here, or getting government jobs. Right in 1947, the people in Jammu were branded communal, and the ballot papers of Praja Parishad candidates were rejected in bulk. The Praja Parishad then withdrew its remaining candidates, giving the National Conference an absolute majority of 75/75 in the Constituent Assembly. This did not shake the confidence, and support, of the Praja Parishad, and its successor, the BJP, here among the people. Some hardcore people continued to support it, come what may. But this support looks doubtful now. Why? Because the BJP seems to have given up on the cause/s of Jammu, and for this, people feel betrayed. And there is always a punishment for the betrayal. The act does not go unpunished and in fact gets punished on the very first available opportunity to masses. Contd on Page 2 EARTH NEWS SERVICE Jammu, May 26|15: A complete Jammu Bandh has been called tomorrow by the AIIMS Coordination Committee against the shifting of proposed branch of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences from Jammu to Kashmir Region. The MP said that she understands the sentiments of the people of Jammu region over the issue and would convey the same to the central leadership of the party on her return to New Delhi. Contd on Page 2 Srinagar, May 26|15: In a scathing attack on the PDPBJP dispensation in the state, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) today said the coalition government would be forced to step down in near future owing to its “anti-people” policies. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have lost faith in the present regime and I can say it with full confidence that people want change and the day is not far when PDP-BJP coalition will be forced by the people to step down,” JKPCC president and former minister G A Mir said. Addressing a day-long political convention of the party in Srinagar, the Congress leader expressed concern over the “political instability” in the state arising due to “anti-people policies” of the PDP-led coalition government. “People of Jammu and Kashmir have never in the history experienced such a government, despite passing Contd on Page 2 Nathatop: The place where one can fly, literally! visit the place.
