The Bauhaus-University invites to the
The 20th International Conference on the Applications of Computer Science and Mathematics in
Architecture and Civil Engineering will be held at the Bauhaus University Weimar from 20th till 22nd
July 2015. Architects, computer scientists, mathematicians, and engineers from all over the world will
meet in Weimar for an interdisciplinary exchange of experiences, to report on their results in
research, development and practice and to discuss. The conference covers a broad range of research
areas: numerical analysis, function theoretic methods, partial differential equations, continuum
mechanics, engineering applications, coupled problems, computer sciences, and related topics.
Several plenary lectures in aforementioned areas will take place during the conference.
We invite architects, engineers, designers, computer scientists, mathematicians, planners, project
managers, and software developers from business, science and research to participate in the
conference!
Weimar, Cultural Capital of Europe 1999, is situated directly in the heart of Germany. The town of
Weimar is a pleasant place for the IKM 2015 and offers a wide variety of cultural attractions, too. The
classical places of life and work of the famous poets Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, the composer
and pianist Liszt, and the philosopher Nietzsche invite you to a visit as well as the German National
Theatre.
The following topics will be discussed at the conference in workshops, in main lectures end short
presentations.
(I)
Optimization in Engineering Applications

The session is open to recent developments of optimization techniques with applications
in (civil) engineering. In particular contributions related to (robust) structural
optimization, parameter identification, optimal design of experiments, multi-objective
optimization are welcome.
(II) Data, information and knowledge modeling in civil engineering
Hans-Joachim Bargstädt, Weimar / Kay Smarsly, Weimar / Eike Tauscher, Weimar
Modeling of data, information and knowledge is of increasing interest in a number of
engineering disciplines, for example in Computing in Civil Engineering and in Construction
Engineering and Management. While “data” represents unorganized facts, “information”
is defined as contextualized data, and “knowledge” is information enriched with a certain
meaning that is based, e.g., on expert insights or on engineering experiences. This session
illuminates concepts and practical applications of data, information, and knowledge
modeling in diverse engineering disciplines. Topics include (but are not limited to) data
models in construction management, data uncertainty in construction scheduling,
knowledge exchange in construction engineering, data modeling in structural health
monitoring (SHM), data communication in wireless sensor networks, building information
modeling (BIM), etc.
(III) Function theoretic methods and PDE in engineering sciences

(IV) Traffic systems and traffic optimization

Main topics of the session are
• Intelligent transportation systems (Traffic Control and Traffic Management,
Quality Management for traffic data, Automated vehicles)
• Modeling (Activity-based modeling, Traffic flow theories, Application of dynamic
models)
• Energy and Sustainability Issues (Environmental Traffic Management, Energy and
carbon emissions, Climate change and adaption strategies)
• Navigation systems and applications (GPS/EGNOS, Galileo, GLONASS, Compass,
GNSS Simulation, Testing Tools and Infrastructure, Road and Rail Applications)
(V) Mathematical methods for (robotics and) computer vision

In particular contributions related (but not restricted) to computer vision,
photogrammetry, remote sensing, surveying, robotic mapping, artificial intelligence,
geosciences, computational geometry, geodesy or geomatics are welcome. Contributions
to applied geometric algebra, geometric algebra computing, application of hypercomplex
algebras (quaternions, Geometric Algebra, Clifford Algebra, etc.) in the engineering and
natural sciences, in particular in image and signal processing, in physics, etc. are also
highly welcome.

Conference fee
The conference fee is 300 EUR.
It has to be payed via the Conference Management System after registration.
The conference plans to give a limited financial support to speakers who need a support. In
such a case please send an application to the organizing committee, explaining the reasons. A
decision will be made depending on the funding of the conference.
The conference fee includes the coffee breaks, lunches, conference dinner and the electronic
proceedings.
