SUMIT SUMMER STARTUP PROGRAM FOR UCLA STUDENTS FOR APPLICATIONS GO TO: eureca.ucla.edu APPLICATIONS ARE DUE: MAY 31, 2015 The UCLA EURECA program sends student startup teams each summer to participate in the SumIT Startup Marathon in St. Petersburg, Russia. Hosted by 5-time winner of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest and one of the top universities in Russia - St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO). Follows the Lean Startup method and includes seminars and working sessions on technology entrepreneurship in general and as it is practiced in Russia. During the program, teams also meet with consultants and mentors to develop their business plan. The program concludes with a Demo Day, where teams pitch their idea to venture capitalists with potential for future funding. Up to two student startup teams can win funding from the UCLA EURECA program to participate in this summer’s program. The UCLA teams will participate for the last 3-4 weeks of the program, which is to be conducted in English and Russian. Who is eligible: current UCLA undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and professional schools Funding covers: travel, lodging and meal expenses for up to three team members When: mid-August to mid-September *A UCLA Russian Flagship student will accompany the team during travel to assist with translation, language and culture. Past Teams Travel Angel, Summer 2013. A non-profit entrepreneurial project started in 2013 which operates like a crowd funding platform for social entrepreneurs to receive free or very low cost flights to test their social good initiatives abroad. Post-program: Travel Angel was recognized as a 2014 Dewey Winborne Community Service honoree at the South by Southwest Interactive Conference. www.trvangel.com VuPad, Summer 2012. This product will allow users to visualize interior design arrangements in their home using a smartphone or tablet device. Leveraging 3D augmented reality technology, the system will seamlessly place a virtual model of selected furnishings into a live video stream of the room as captured by the device's built-in camera.
