INTRODUCTION
The first rule of any
technology used in a
business is that automation
applied to an efficient
operation will magnify the
efficiency. The second is
that automation applied to
an inefficient operation will
magnify the inefficiency.
Information technology
and business are becoming
inextricably interwoven.
Welcome to the Fourth Annual Saudi-Pak
Accountancy Symposium organized by the KSA
Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Pakistan (ICAP), at the Ritz Carlton Hotel
Auditorium in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on
May 14, 2015 (25 Rajab 1436).
of deploying technology as effectively as deploying
capital and other resources. The language of
today’s accounting and finance professionals
is completely different to what they spoke two
decades back and there is nothing to suggest that
the language of today will not go ancient in less
than a decade in the future. Such is the dizzying
impact of technology.
In line with the theme of the Symposium
“Technology – CFO’s new best friend”, the event
aims to highlight the relevance of technology
and how vital that it is harnessed by the age old
profession of accountancy and finance. As CFO’s, it
can no longer be assumed that technology is an IT
function. It is a business function and as stewards
and business strategists CFO’s are expected to be
at the forefront of this digital age.
Just like the industrial revolution heralded the
industrial age, so is the case with the digital
revolution that has brought about the Information
age where digital realms, big data, cloud computing,
ERP software, globalization, digital audit trails, virtual
currency and online payment and settlement
portals are redefining the new normal.
The accounting and finance professionals of today
are no longer mathematical tools but business
leaders. This shift has come about through the aid
01
I don’t think anybody can
talk meaningfully about
one without the talking
about the other.
The Symposium will aim to bring together under
one roof, the leading practitioners of accountancy
and finance from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and
Pakistan. The track record of success, participation,
rich and diverse agendas of the previous annual
events and coverage of the same in the local and
international press has made this event an annual
must for the best in the business.
ICAP KSA Chapter has indeed made its mark as the
pre-eminent overseas chapter with high impact,
high visibility in the business corridors of KSA.
The latest example of this is that this Symposium
is being held under the patronage of H.E. the
Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Tawfiq
bin Fawzan Al Rabiah. Furthermore, the ICAP KSA
Chapter remains grateful to ICAP and SOCPA and
the continued patronage of Embassy of Pakistan in
Saudi Arabia.

FEEDBACK FROM THIRD SAUDI-PAK
ACCOUNTANCY SYMPOSIUM
ACWA Power was pleased to
support ICAP’s third annual
Saudi-Pak
Accountancy
Symposium on 15th May 2014
as its Main Sponsor. The event
was very well organized and
seamlessly executed in spite
of the large turnout which is
growing with each passing
year. The fact that the event
managed to attract the crème
de la crème of the Saudi and
Pakistani expat accounting
professionals is a testament to
the event’s success.
I hope that the issues debated
at the said event and the
conclusions derived will help
improve
the
professional
standards.
ACWA Power – Main
Sponsor
On the whole the function
was very successful. For this
you deserve our heartfelt
congratulations. I was quite
impressed by the number
of people you had at your
function. It is normally difficult
to collect such a large number
at such functions. You and your
colleagues must have worked
really very hard to assemble
such a large number.
I am grateful to you and your
colleagues for giving me
the award for my humble
contribution
to
Islamic
Economics.
Dr. M. Umer Chapra
Keynote Speaker and
Award recipient
It was indeed an honor for me
to receive the award given by
ICAP KSA Chapter for which I
am very much thankful. I was
also very much impressed by

Congrats to you and your

you more successes and do
get in touch with me for any
assistance in future.
Best regards

It had a very strong line
up of speakers across the
various industries and good
balance between technical
presentations and business

relatively short and focused and
also debate session was a good
break from dry presentations
