Since 1993 Slovakia has been the top investment destination country in the CEE region. The total volume of FDI inflow
reached EUR 40 billion in 2010. Hundreds of major investment projects from the US, Asia (China, Taiwan, South Korea,
Japan) and Europe (Germany, Austria, France, Italy) have chosen Slovakia as their preferred destination, mainly in
automotive, electronics and information technology. This Central European country with a population of 5.4 million
offers a very fair tax system, where you can find full repatriation of profit and 0% dividend tax.
With one of the highest labour productivity rates and some of the most modern production facilities this economy has
the potential to maintain its position of the regional tiger. Slovakia is one of only a few countries in the region with the
euro therefore it has no transaction costs with Germany, Austria or France - its main trade partners mentioned above.
Low risk premiums on Slovakian bond and good perspective on GDP are also a sign that the Slovak economy is in good
shape.
80% of the population speaks at least one foreign language. The most common is English followed by German, French,
Spanish, Italian and Russian. 13,8% of the population has university education and this number continues to grow.
Slovakia belongs to the top 10 hard-working countries together with the USA, Japan and Mexico and has one of the
most flexible labour codes in the EU. As one of the most attractive emerging markets in the world, Slovakia affords its
investors a rare combination of reasons why to invest in the country.
