Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to the 8th Geosymposium of Young Researchers “Silesia 2015”.
The Conference will be held in Ustroń (Silesian Beskids, Poland)
from 23th to 25th September 2015.
Geosymposium is a meeting devoted to young scientists, students, PhD students and young
doctors interested in Earth Sciences. The conference is of an interdisciplinary character, thanks
to which it provides an excellent platform for the presentation of research results in the field
of geology, geophysics, geography and environmental protection. Since 2014 GeoSymposium has
held the rank of an international conference.
It is organized by the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice each
autumn. The conference partner is the company Esri Polska Sp. z o. o.

Registration form (enclosed) and author guidelines will be available soon on
www.geosymp.wnoz.us.edu.pl . Registration form should be sent to geosymposium@us.edu.pl .
The deadline for registration, abstract submission and payment is 30th June 2015. Registration fee
is 420 PLN (c.a. 100 Euro).

TRAVEL & ARRIVAL
Unfortunately there is no possibility to suggest one universal way of public transport. That's why
we will limit our guidelines here to facilitate your individual planning. You can use Railway
transport or Intercity Buses. In the first case you should plan your journey with PKP - Polish
State Railways, in the second one e-podroznik (this site also supports railways). For moving
around the larger cities by means of public transportation we suggest using the jakdojade.pl
If you have any problems with public transport, despite these guidelines, please contact us at
sylwia.skreczko@us.edu.pl . We'll try to figure something out...
FEE
We would like to remind you that the conference fee 420 PLN (100 Euro) per person includes:
 accommodation for 23/24 and 24/25 of September

For those who will come to Ustroń earlier or who want to stay in Ustroń after the conference, we

WORKSHOPS & TRIP
This year’s edition of the GeoSymposium is going to be extended with stationary and field
workshops led by the representants of Esri Polska Sp. z o. o. Esri Poland offers solutions and IT
tools allowing presentation and comprehension of the surrounding world based on visualization
and analysis of spatial data. The company is the sole representative of Esri Inc., the world leader in
creating Geographical Information System software. The solutions allow cooperation and sharing
the data in a chosen place and time as well as on any device. The Esri solutions are currently used

The second day of the conference is also a field trip to the Great Czantoria and several local
attractions. Please bring your field outfit (mostly comfortable shoes and raincoat).
GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
The preferable conference language is English (PowerPoint slides in oral presentations and posters
should be written in English).
ABSTRACTS
Every participant who is going to present their work at the conference (oral or poster) should
prepare an abstract in English of maximum 300 words. Abstracts will be published in conference
papers. Guidelines for preparing abstracts:
 page size A4
 margins 2,5 cm
 line spacing 1,5
 title: bold, font Times New Roman 14
 name, surname, affiliation (university, faculty/institute/department, address, e-mail): font
Times New Roman 12
 text: font Times New Roman 12
POSTERS
Those who are preparing a poster should do it in the following maximum sizes:
1000.0 mm X 1000.0 mm.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS
Slides for presentations should be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or 2003. You can also
prepare your presentation in PDF. Files must be delivered on a portable USB drive during the
break before the session in which the author takes part. Each participant will be provided with a
computer, overhead projector and laser pointer. Time of the presentation with discussion should
not exceed 15 minutes.
ARTICLES
We would like to encourage you and invite you to publish your work which will have been
presented during the VIII GeoSymposium of Young Researchers Silesia in 2015. The Contemporary
Trends in Geoscience, published by the DeGruyter, is waiting for you.

If you are interested in publishing your work, please send manuscripts up to June 30, 2015 (the
first deadline). After positive reviews the articles will be published until the end of September.
We also offer a second deadline for manuscripts which is on September 13, 2015 – it gives the
possibility to publish the article until the end of November 2015. The CTG adopted the Print-Ahead
strategy which allows to publish immediately the article after review process, without waiting for
the filled issue.
