G The Glenwood Marching Titans traveled to Disney World, in Orlando, Florida, during Spring Break, to march in the the parade at Magic Kingdom. Students in the marching band have been fundraising for this event for over four years. Real memories were made both inside Disney World and the nineteen hour bus ride there and back. The GHS Band also participated in a “You’re Instrumental” workshop during their four day tour at Disney World. Students’ favorite memories were marching down main street and performing for thousands. Band members would like to thank their parents and supporters for this amazing opportunity. lenwood High School’s Titan Fever Show Choir won Grand Champion honors at the 2015 Show Choir Nationals held at the historic Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, Tennessee, March 27-28. They were welcomed back to Glenwood High School on Sunday, March 29 by hundreds of fans, as their buses were escorted by Chatham police and firefighters. Titan Fever was also awarded the “Best Vocals” caption award at the competition which featured choirs from as far away as Minnesota, Connecticut, Virginia and Alabama. Also bringing home honors to GHS was senior Steffi Quinn, who was named best Female Performer of the competition, and junior Brennen Daniels, who was named best Male Performer. In their 8th year, Titan Fever is currently comprised of 49 singers and dancers, and a 17-member instrumental combo. This year, the group won Grand Champion awards at the Mt. Zion Midwest Invitational, Crete-Monee Spectacular, and the O’Fallon Show Down, as well as numerous best vocals, best choreography, and best band awards during their competitive season. Titan Fever is directed by Jeff Gemar, assisted by choreographer Heath Gemar, costumer/organizer Mary Gemar, and Combo Director Tom Myers. The group will host their annual Dessert Theatre fundraiser on Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the GHS auditorium. The public is invited, and tickets are $5. GHS Yearbook Editors Win SISPA Award C o-Editors-in-Chief for the 2013, and 2014 Glenwood High School yearbooks, Hannah Engelking and Jessica Clarke, hold the SISPA Golden Dozen Award for the 2014 yearbook (awarded in 2015). The Golden Dozen Award represents the top 12 books in Illinois. Engelking and Clarke earned this esteemed award for both the 2013 and 2014 yearbooks. They also earned the IJEA awards in 2013 for 3rd Best Overall Yearbook and 2014 2nd Place Overall Best Yearbook. Congratulations to the editors and their staffs. Patti Kaylor has been advisor for the Glenwood High School yearbook staff for 19 years. Of the 12 times entering the SISPA Golden Dozen contest, GHS has won 10 times. The event will begin with a catered banquet and will conclude with a ceremony honoring the 2015 Hall of Fame Class of inductees: Service – Jim Fox, 1956-64 Head Boys Basketball Coach; Achievement – Robert Fielding, Class of 1955; Lifetime Recognition – Pam Charlson Speer – Class of 1967; Team – 2005 Boys Soccer State Champions; and Posthumous – Chad Young, Class of 2003. The Glenwood High School Hall of Fame, which includes students who have graduated from Ball and Chatham High Schools, was created to honor those individuals or groups whose actions or achievements in their chosen fields bring honor and distinction to the heritage of Glenwood High School. Categories of recognition include: Achievement, Athletics, Service, and Lifetime Recognition. Artwork Selected for Display at SIU School of Medicine C ongratulations to eight Glenwood High School students whose artwork has been selected for this year’s SIU School of Medicine Art Show. Pictured is a ceramic vase created by freshman Sam O’Connor. It is one of the pieces that will be on display in the SIU School of Medicine lobby April 27-May 15. The eight students are: Agatha Mendiola, Alicia Windisch, Kaitlyn Fleigle, SamO’Connor, Jacob Gehrig, Yiyi Ma, Emily Kauerauf, and Sarah Smith. Glenwood High School WYSE Team Winners! T he GHS WYSE Team competed at the State finals held at the University of Illinois on April 14. Results from the competition include earning three medals: Stephanie Chou (6th place Chemistry) and Thara Nallamothu (5th place Chemistry and 4th place Biology).
