We’ll have kid-friendly activities, refreshments,
and the winners of our first-ever “Why I Love
My Library” writing contest!
At 6:00 p.m., the Glenwood Chamber of
Commerce will be on-hand for a ribbon-cutting
ceremony. At that time, members from the Library
Board of Trustees and Foundation Board will offer
brief statements
about the project.
There will also be an unveiling of
donor plaques, honoring the three
families who donated the money to
make the renovation possible.

June was another month for the record books! More people than EVER
came to the library to join in on the summer reading fun! More than 100
children participated in the “Reptile for Readers” program alone! Thank
you to everyone who took part in our 5-week Summer Reading Program,
running from May 23rd to June 29th. We’re working on our fiscal year-end
statistics and can’t wait to see the final tally. We’ll be sharing those numbers with you in an
upcoming edition of Library Lines.
Now that the official Summer Reading Program is over, we can tidy up our new space and
ready it for an official GRAND OPENING celebration! We have more furnishings to purchase to
make it the best children and teens’ space in Glenwood. We hope you can join us on July 31,
from 5 - 7 p.m. for an evening of fellowship and activities. The ribbon-cutting will be at 6 p.m.
So where do we go from here? We have a lot of things on our plate - planning for fall
programs, adding storytime sessions, expanding our hours, and finalizing our strategic plan.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg - we’re excited about the future! One thing that will never
change is our dedication to customer service. We take great pride in serving the citizens of
Glenwood. We hope you stop by not to just use the library, but to experience it!
Friends of the Library book bags are available for purchase! These
heavy-duty zippered bags are great for people on the go, and
feature a front pocket, a key ring, and a side pouch for a phone or a
beverage. The bags are only $8 for non-Friends members, and $5 for
Friends members. If you want to become a Friend for $5, you’ll get the bag for free! Thank you to
Glenwood State Bank and Kenkel Chiropractic for making the bags a possibility!
All Friends members are invited to the Friends meeting on Monday, July 23, at 9:30 a.m. Jackie Harless,
GPL’s Genealogy Librarian, will be doing a local history presentation about the town square. If you’d like
to become a Friend, stop by the Adult Services Desk to fill out a membership form and pay the annual $5
dues. If you sign up now, you will receive a free book bag!
The Friends will once again do a book sale fundraiser at Keg Creek Days the weekend of August 25.
Contact the library if you’re interested in volunteering at the event. If you can’t make it to Keg Creek
Days, but want to help fundraise, we’re currently accepting donations of gently used books for the sale.

The Vine Street Ladies of Literature and Lunch meet monthly on the
second Wednesday at noon. The next meeting is July 11th, and will
feature the book Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy.
Book description: When a new highway threatens to bypass the town of
Rossmore and cut through Whitethorn Woods, everyone has a
passionate opinion about whether the town will benefit or suffer. But
young Father Flynn is most concerned with the fate of St. Ann’s Well,
which is set at the edge of the woods and slated for destruction. People
have been coming to St. Ann’s for generations to share their dreams and
fears, and speak their prayers. Some believe it to be a place of true spiritual power, demanding
protection; others think it’s a mere magnet for superstitions, easily sacrificed.
