DECLARATION, BLESSING AND WELCOME HYMN 450 Slane Be Thou My Vision BENEDICTION (Please be seated after the Benediction) RESPONSE POSTLUDE And at My Departing Edward T. Chapman If You Will Trust in God to Guide You J.S. Bach (1685-1750) WELCOME Our congregation has been welcoming members and visitors to worship on the Lord’s Day since March 16, 1780. If you are visiting today, we extend a special welcome and invite you to introduce yourself to a pastor or speak with an usher if you have any questions. If you are looking for a church home and would like to talk with a pastor, please fill out the fellowship book in the pew today or call the church office. To learn more about our history and who we are, we invite you to explore our website: www.gtownpres.org. Today's prayers for the people were written by our confirmation class. They were asked to pray for the world, our country, our community, our church, and our children. These prayers are their own words. In today’s music, the hymn tune Slane, which we will sing as the closing hymn, has its origins as an Irish folk tune. The composer of the tune is not known. It was first associated with a folk ballad before being set in 1927 by David Evans to the Irish hymn “Be Thou My Vision.” We welcome back Ben McClamrock, our resident virtuoso on the Great Highland Bagpipe. He will play the prelude and some celebratory tunes on the porch following today’s confirmation service. The flowers in the Chancel today are given by Nathan Stevens Vanderploeg to the glory of God and in honor of his late father, W. Stevens Vanderploeg, and his last visit to GPC. The ushers for May are Gordon Grant, Captain; Nancy Benzing, Julie Goffe, Mildred Grant, Shelley Jennings, Cristian Lopez, Jennie Lopez, Deborah McFadden, Nat Semple, Grant Welch, Laura Welch, Marjorie West. Today after the service, visitors and members are cordially invited to the Georgetown Room for Lunch Bunch “Salad Days” hosted this week by Katy McBride, Cynthia Johnson and the Confirmation Sponsors. Join us for a festive spring meal! Assisted listening devices may be found at the back of the sanctuary. Each device comes with a headset, but you may bring your own from home to plug in. Please let the ushers or Alex Ray know if you have any problems. Readings are from the New Revised Standard Version translation of the Bible unless otherwise indicated. Blue Bibles are located at the end of each pew. Altered Children’s Worship Schedule Today Young Children and Worship has an altered schedule today, so that the children can come back to see the vows of the Confirmation students. Children age 2 through 1st grade will be led upstairs by Rev. Vaagenes after Time with Children, and will then return to the main worship during the Doxology where they will sit in the front row to get a good view. Please collect your children from the front after the service. Children 2nd grade and up will stay in the main service. Congratulations!
