Lord, we confess that we have sinned against you and

GPC is now offering gluten-free communion bread for worshipers
whose diet requires this option. Dark gluten-free cubes are on each communion
plate, along with the white wheat-flour bread as usual.
Today’s choral offertory is an arrangement, by that great American
composer Aaron Copland, of the gospel hymn “Shall We Gather at the River.”
Written in 1864 by Robert Lowry, the tune bears the title “Hanson Place” a
reference to Hanson Place Baptist Church in Brooklyn, where Lowry, a
Baptist minister, sometimes served.
The flowers in the Chancel today are given by Alice and Jim Close to the glory
of God and in loving memory of their daughter, Leslie Powell.
The ushers for May are Gordon Grant, Captain; Nancy Benzing, Julie
Goffe, Mildred Grant, Shelley Jennings, Cristian Lopez, Jennie Lopez,
Deborah McFadden, Nat Semple, Grant Welch, Laura Welch, Marjorie West.
Today after the service visitors and members are cordially invited to join

this week by Mary Mintz. Featured: an enchilada casserole, tres leches cake,
and a salsa tasting. Come and vote for your favorite!

YCW children should be collected upstairs by their parents immediately
after the service. Children’s Church dismisses into the Georgetown Room.
All children are welcome to remain with their families in the service and
age-appropriate worship bags are available in the narthex.
Do You Know about . . . PENTECOST?
Right now we are in the Season of Easter, seven weeks that represent
the time between Jesus’ resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit. In
these days, Jesus gives his final speeches to his disciples, wherein he
promises that he will not leave them alone, but will give them his Spirit
as an advocate. Jesus is then taken up into heaven, and the disciples
gather together until the day of Pentecost, traditionally a Jewish holiday
to celebrate the wheat harvest 50 days after Passover. Now, empowered
by the Holy Spirit, the disciples are sent out into the world to reap the
harvest of believers. This day is traditionally called the “birthday of
the church.”

on April 27. Her committal service will
be at 12:20 p.m. today in the GPC
Columbarium.

From these seven short chapters we
hear of swords beaten into plowshares,
and of doing justice, loving kindness,
and walking humbly with the Lord.

to repent. Historical drama meets
timeless (and timely) words of warning
in this fast-paced high-stakes book.

Georgetown Saturday Suppers and
Sunday Dinners
“GSS” and “GSD” are weekly
ecumenical projects that feed more
than 50 unhoused neighbors every
weekend. GSS is based at Mt. Zion
Methodist Church every Saturday
evening, and GSD is based here at
GPC every Sunday evening. GPC
provides leadership and meals at Mt.
Zion, just down the street, on the last
Saturday of the month and at GPC on
the second Sunday of the month. Our
next two dates are Sunday, May 10
from 4 - 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 30
from 4 - 6 p.m. To sign up, please visit

then “Unhoused Neighbors.”
We Need YOU
GPC is blessed to have members of
all ages. Some of our oldest members
need visits and care. These folks have
given their lives to the church, and
now it is time to give back. If you
volunteer for home visits, you will be
trained by a pastor who will also
accompany you on your first visit.

challenging and rewarding ministry.
