Job Description: Director of Children and Family Ministries
Overview
Orchestrate and set a path for Children, Youth and Family ministries with a sense of purpose and
joy. Report to the Associate Rector for Christian Formation and work collaboratively with staff and
congregational leaders, including the Rector, other associated clergy, and the Director of Music
Job Responsibilities
• Facilitate lifelong Christian formation following CHR Mission Priorities
• Recruit, train, and sustain a corps of Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, and Children’s Chapel leaders
• Serve as lead teacher for year-long Confirmation class (8th graders) Provide leadership for youth group,
including outreach projects for middle- and high-schoolers
• Evaluate and adapt Sunday School curriculums; help teachers prepare lesson plans
• Lead Children’s Chapel during 10:30 service
• Facilitate nursery and toddler programs
• Maintain a master CFM calendar, including teacher and volunteer rotas
• Communicate on a weekly basis with volunteers, students, and the larger church
• Participate in liturgical life of the parish
• Coordinate with Director of Music to support youth choirs and music programs
• Direct special events: Christmas pageant, Advent wreath-making, Shrove Tuesday, etc.
• Model safe, healthy, respectful relationships between children and adults
• Represent children and family programs within wider parish community
• Be a vital player in the spiritual and pastoral life of the CHR community
Skills and Abilities
• Effective teaching and leadership skills
• Experience in recruiting and supporting volunteers
• Ability to communicate with and inspire both children and adults
• Systematic thinker, proactive and highly organized
• Resourceful problem-solver
• Joy and creativity in teaching, sharing, and living the Christian faith
Requirements
Proven track record in working with children
Theological training or related background
Experience in nurturing spiritual practices within a diverse community
