From Father David…..
Those of us of a certain vintage my well
remember Mission Praise. Back in the 1980’s Billy
Graham, the American Evangelist, came over to
England and for 3 weeks took over Anfield Stadium
(it was the only time I have ever been on the Kop!!).
Every night lively music would be sung, presentations of faith made and
Christian celebrities, such as Sir Cliff Richard, and the wrestler Big Daddy, would
give personal testimonies of faith. Eventually Billy Graham would come on to the
stage and give us a rousing talk, and ask us to give our lives to Jesus and be his
faithful disciples. For 3 weeks Billy Graham did this and hundreds and thousands
of Christians were “reborn.” It was a fantastic time to be a Christian and taking
to heart Psalm 116 “Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News.”
The world is a dark place at the moment and it is a difficult time to be a
Christian. But this is not new and the Christian is resilient. Remember the
disciples (I write this on the Feast of Saint Thomas) post the Crucifixion. They
were in the Upper Room, hiding away for fear of the Jews. Jesus came in and gave
them the support and encouragement they needed. When they recognised who
he was they went out and proclaimed the Gospel. Even doubting Thomas, went
out and proclaimed the Good News; he is reported to have taken the Gospel to
Persia and India.
We may not see Jesus physically, but he is present with us. We meet him
in the Scriptures and in the Eucharist whenever we read the Bible or receive Holy
Communion, and he is calling us to be disciples just like he called Thomas and
the other 11. So let us recognise his presence in our lives, in the Scriptures and in
the breaking of Bread. And when we do, let us be filled with the joy we had in
the Mission Praise days of the 80’s and Go out into the world, and proclaim the
Good News.

Sunday 26th July at 3.00pm at Holy Family Ince Blundell. If
anyone would like to be anointed on that day can you

Proclaim 2015
On Saturday 11th July our parish will host a special morning of
prayer themed Proclaim ’15 from 11.00am at Our Lady’s. Cardinal
Vincent Nichols, along with the bishops of England and Wales,
invites every parish to join a national network of prayer on this
evening to intercede for the work of evangelisation. The gathering will coincide with
the National Catholic Evangelisation Conference, which is happening on the same day,
in Birmingham, bringing together over 800 people from across our countries. Please
do support this significant moment in service of the proclamation of the Gospel.

Sea Sunday
The Sea Sunday collection will be taken on Sunday July 12th. The collection
supports the work of the Apostleship of the Sea, which through the
ecumenical partnership of the Liverpool Seafarers’ Centre, offers pastoral
care, practical help and hospitality to seafarers whilst they are in the
Mersey Ports. Around 95% of all our goods, (fuel, white goods, food etc),
arrives by ship. We are highly dependent upon seafarers but they are largely invisible
to us: they come from the developing countries and spend up to nine months at sea
away from their families and friends. For more information about Apostleship of the
Sea and Sea Sunday please go to http://www.apostleshipofthesea.org.uk/sea-sunday
