June 2, 2015 Mayor & Seniors GARDEN PARTY Help us celebrate our local seniors at the annual Mayor and Seniors Garden Party at the Innisfail Historical Village on Wednesday, June 3 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. COUNCIL MEETINGS This celebration is part of National Seniors Week, June 1 to 7. Innisfail Town Council's next meeting is June 8, 2015. Agenda packages are available on our website in the Municipal Services menu under Town Council. INNISFAIL ROTARY PARADE The Innisfail Rotary Parade takes place in downtown Innisfail on Saturday, June 13, 2015. The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration forms are available on our website innisfail.ca/parade-2015. Completed forms can be submitted to the Town Office at 4943 – 53 St., by email to townhall@innisfail.ca or by fax to 403-227-4045. Registrants should meet at 9:15 a.m. on parade day. Judging will begin at 9:30 a.m. ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY FALL 2015 INNISFAIL PROGRAM GUIDE Have you thought of advertising in the Innisfail Community Program Guide? The Fall guide is a great way for you to advertise your sports, recreation and culture programs and services running from September through December 2015. The guide is distributed to 4,790 households in Innisfail and surrounding area. The deadline to reserve and submit your ad content is Friday, June 12. Please call 403-227-3376 or email janice.jones@innisfail.ca. PTSD AWARENESS WALK Kate MacEachern is trekking across Western Canada to raise awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She arrives in Innisfail on June 3 and 4. If you want to welcome her and donate to her cause, you can come out to the Royal Canadian Legion at 5108 49 Ave. on Wednesday, June 3 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. You can also see Kate off from the Innisfail Econo Lodge at 5004 42 Ave. at 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 4. All donations raised from Kate’s walk go to PTSD-focused organizations. You may appeal Discretionary Use approvals to the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board within fourteen (14) days after the date of this notice. You may not appeal a Permitted Use unless it involves a relaxation, variance or misinterpretation of the Land Use Bylaw. An appeal may be made by paying the required fee and by filing an appeal in writing with the secretary of the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board at the Town Office. The community Handi-Van provides local service for seniors in the Innisfail area from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. And the Innisfail and District Community Bus offers a shopping mall service to Red Deer on the first Wednesday of every month, as well as charter opportunities for trips throughout the province. ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL CANCELLED Due to poor weather conditions last year and this spring, Edgar Farms has announced it has cancelled its Asparagus Festival scheduled for May 31, June 7 and June 14. For more information, please contact Elna at 403-350-0659 or 403-227-2443. AN AMAZING GREEN AND CLEAN May 21 was the wrap-up of our month-long Green & Clean program. This year we had more than 450 residents register….wow! We want to thank each and every volunteer who got your hands dirty to help keep our town clean and beautiful! The winning team is the Horse Shoe Club, who picked up in more areas and gathered more garbage than any other team. Congrats to all the Horse Shoe Club’s dedicated members who are the recipients of the $100 Boston Pizza gift card prize! COMMUNITY & BUSINESS AWARDS The Town of Innisfail and the Innisfail & District Chamber of Commerce are looking for nominations of individuals, groups or businesses who have made a significant sports and/or business contribution to the Innisfail and district area. Deadline for accepting nominations this year is Sept. 8 and we'd like to receive your nominations as early as possible! SUMMER SWIM LESSONS Registration for summer swim lessons for the July and August classes are now open. Swim lessons during the summer months run for one week at a time, Monday to Friday. LOST & FOUND NEEDS EMPTYING The lost and found box in the Aquatics Centre is full and needs to be emptied. Could any of its contents be that long lost something of yours? Come in, have a look and if something is yours, please take it home. Anything in the lost and found not claimed prior to June 15 will be thrown away or given to a local charity. Please, no phone calls. INNISFAIL RELAY FOR LIFE The Innisfail Relay for Life on June 19 and 20 kicks off with a barbecue from 4:45 to 6 p.m., followed by the opening ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. and the Survivors Lap at 7 p.m. All participants start the Relay at 7:15 p.m. There is a $5 donation requested for the barbecue with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. Luminary Lighting is at 10 p.m. Cancer survivors who want to participate in the Survivor Celebration can call Connie at 403-224-2360.
