The school is a three stream school with an enrolment of 800 students and
operates as 3 sub schools or clusters, each with a Cluster Leader:

Our Catherine Centre supports a number of students with
various defined disabilities. Children with special needs are
part of our mainstream classes at SSP and are withdrawn at
certain times to the Catherine Centre for individualised
programs.
At SSP we value inclusive education practices and
acknowledge the individual needs of each enrolled student.
Learning Support
Three teachers work with class teachers and parents to
examine why learning is problematic for identified
children.
They assist teachers and parents to make decisions on
appropriate remedial strategies and this may involve
modifications to regular teaching programs of the class
teacher.

School Social Worker - Laura Pope
Mrs Pope has special skills in assessing children who have academic,
social or emotional difficulties. Parents or staff may request that a child
sees Laura if there are specific concerns
On-going communication between all parties will then be necessary to
ensure the needs of the child are met.

Occupational Therapist – Kate Sagara
Physiotherapist – Kate Williams
Speech and Physio Screenings are conducted in Kindergarten. OT
screening is scheduled for Pre Primary each year. A referral system
applies for follow up by parents in this very important area of our
work.
HOPE
Helping Our Parents Effectively
Parent volunteers are called for in each class at the
beginning of the year. HOPE representatives offer social
connections and assistance to parents in particular classes
with any school related matter.
Curriculum
All schools in WA are required to implement the Australian
Curriculum which is made up of eight Learning Areas and
Catholic schools teach Religious Education as part of their
curriculum.

Service operates from 6.30am to 6.30pm all year

LDC and OSHC Service 2015
 Long Day Care (Mon-Fri) $90; $50 half day for children from 2
years of age.
 3YO Kindy(Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri) $80 a session for children
turning 3 or $100 a day for all day care.
 Please Note: Enrolment in the 3YO program is not enrolment
into SSP. Enrolment begins in Kindergarten and is subject to an
enrolment interview with the Principal.






Behaviour Management
In all classrooms we use the ‘1,2,3 Magic’
discipline plan. If children misbehave they
receive a 1. If it continues, a 2 and then a 3 are
called. If a child receives a 3, they are given a
short period of timeout. This process works in
the three blocks of the day – the start of school to
recess, recess to lunch and lunch to the end of
the day. Class teachers will explain this model at
the start of the year.
Behaviour Management
1, 2, 3 Magic also applies in the
playground. If a student reaches a 3 at
either recess or lunch they will be sent
to the timeout bench. This allows the
child to settle down, think about their
poor behaviour and resolve to behave
more appropriately.

Late Notes
Children in Year 1 to Year 6 who arrive at school after the
8:40am bell will be sent to the office for a late note. Should a
child receive three late notes in the space of two weeks,
parents will receive a letter from the Principal.

Two parts: Schoolwide Behaviour and Bullying are available
on the school’s website and is set out in easy steps for everyone
to understand and follow. Based on the school’s Charter of
Rights and Responsibilities (5 school rules) for all students
with consequences to be followed should any rights be
contravened.
Communication Between Home
and School
Good communication with the school is essential in your child’s
education. Frustration and anger grow out of misunderstanding
or misrepresentation. Remember that there are two sides to every
story and it is essential to check facts before coming to any
conclusions. Beware of half truths as you may have the wrong
half!
Good relationships between a parents and a teacher are
important. Such relationships require knowledge of each other,
mutual trust and shared good will. Should a problem arise,
parents are encouraged to discuss it with the class teacher as soon
as possible.

 Appointments - class teacher in the first instance. If the matter
is not resolved then parents can make an appointment with the
Cluster Leader.
 If the matter is serious parents can make an appointment with
the Principal by contacting the Office.

Any problems at school need to be dealt with by
school personnel. Therefore, it is not acceptable for a
parent to approach any child other than their own at
school to discuss a problem.
It is not recommended for parents to phone or
approach other parents in these situations. Every
effort will be made to resolve conflicts and difficult
situations in the best possible way at school.
Parent Volunteers
The school encourages and asks for parental involvement. This can
be accomplished at a variety of levels by doing the following:
Communicate often and honestly with the class teacher.
Attend Parent Workshops that are offered each year.
Participate in classroom rosters, activities and excursions.
Attend school Masses, Assemblies and parent morning teas.
Attend functions and support special events held by the school.
Become involved with the Friends of SSP and the School Board.
Give 10.
Join rosters in the Canteen and Library.
Positively promote the school in the community.

School Board and Friends of SSP
The School Board works with the Principal to ensure that the school
is financially well managed, well maintained now and for the future
needs of students and that all aspects of policy are in place to meet
the needs and interests of children, families and staff.
The Friends of SSP meets in Week 8 each term. All parents are
welcome to attend these meetings. The FSSP is a forum for parent
discussion and ideas.
