EMPLOYMENT AND FUNDED PROJECTS (INCLUDING GRANTS AND FUNDED POSITIONS)
2004- Present: Associate Professor with Tenure, University of Stony Brook, General Daily graduate and undergraduate lectures in Media and
Cinema Theory, Dramaturgy and Narratology, Design, Scenography, and Design Theory, „Convergence‟ and „Emergence‟ theory in global digital
media culture.
Co-Principal of the Media based NGO Global Civic Media. Consult for digital media and telematic Grad, Undergrad, and NFP curriculum for
various entities such as Sogang University, and the former Minister of Culture, South Korea.
Conducted the Rome study abroad program in Rome with completion of projects projected on various monuments and public piazzas such as the
Tiber river esplanade, Campo di Fiori, and the coliseum. Students projected interactive media projects and film expressions on the nature of travel
on identity.
LUMSA lecture and weeklong workshop in Rome on the interrelationship of media, „urban way finding‟, and personal narratives. Work with and
completed the integration of various media throughout the city.
First draft of book for publisher „staring at the finger pointing: essays and spaces on the nature of immersive and social media.
Began teaching Human Computer Interface, Max/Jitter for Dance and Performance, Film and Media Studies and Criticism, Intermediate
Scenography, and introduction to visual interpretation.
Began a series of curriculum development for Sogang university on „The Global Holistic body‟…this would culminate with a summer 2009 six week
class on the integration of film, internet, social media, and performance forms in a four to eight faculty led lecture and workshop series. The blog
and the series of writings would culminate in the workshop and a publication. (Sogang Workshop on Blogger)
$100,000 application for a city of Seoul mayor‟s office request for a grant for scholarships for student study in summer Seoul 2009 on „the global
holistic body.‟ Partial funding for this received for the scholarships.
Conducted „grant group‟ meeting of the student and faculty grant writing training and application in the fall of 2008. This is a weekly meeting of
students and interested persons for the education, use, and the forum for writing specific NGO and research grants for the arts, education and
media.
Performance media venue „Monkeytown‟ with the signature pieces the letters of Veronica Franco: the letters of a 17 th century Venetian courtesan.
Worked with students with their collective media piece and „face as interface‟: a system of computer interface and commands using facial
expressions of the actor. at the
Began and completed work on the software Mind of Michelangelo‟ for an installation in Florence Italy at FUA.
Four blogs and student blogs continued: Genres in Virtual Space, Sogang Workshop, Frag City, and media study abroad. Continued weekly
contributions to these blogsites on media, space, and the body.
Began proposal for urban visioning alliance…a non for profit group with concerns for zoning, local development and cultural centers with a focus on
the interrelationship between the urban milieu and the rural and natural environs.
Began and continued the proposal for Appeadia…an iPhone and app-based magazine for culture, events, and features.
Second phase of development for the Seoul 2020 exhibition in the Olympic stadium for the Seoul design Olympics. Preparing and designing the
spaces for the exhibition with the Sogang contributions of the global holistic body.
Treasurer and co-founder of „Global Civic Media, a NYC based global NGO that examines, critiques, and develops educational projects for use and
dissemination of various forms of online, business development and social media.
Proposal and partial funding ($4,000000 total) for the Seoul city government on a „university of the creative economy‟ or the creative institute. A
government and civic center with online and on site curriculum and activities promoting and institution a program for the insertion of creative
practices and values within the Korean society. This institute and online curriculum will have a function and important for the „at risk „ population of
the Incheon area and it will also serve the worldwide audience in providing an extension curriculum exploring creativity in all aspects of a
commercial, artistic, technological, and scientific sphere.
Further developments for the Seoul 2020 design Olympics focusing on the ideas of the „singularity‟ and of convergent bandwidth rates of computer
and human s in the year 20202. The project will study the livable city and the impact of greater surveillance and regulation practices found through
the machine culture within the urban milieu.
Building the curriculum and formulating the program for the Jeju College of Healing and Expressive arts in Jeju island South Korea. Combining
eastern medicine practices with global telematic delivery in the form of teleconferencing, multiple user interfaces and curriculum, and tangible user
interfaces to provide a center of eastern health practices within a university curriculum in literature and discourses, arts and expression, and
technology research and development.
Received a $15,000 grant from the development of classroom computing for the creation of an immersive environment with a four-projector system
and a gyro mouse or Wii set up.
Conducted a lecture and grant proposal for Vassar college classics and archeology department on „the full immersion of ancient Athens: a spatial
and historical document‟. Created a two wall projection system for the projection of a model of ancient Athens where the narrative spaces of
philosophy, history, and drama within ancient Athens urban milieu is graphically rendered as a teaching and Wii device for the full participation of
students, classics and archeologist, and academics. This culminated in a proposal for a „white cube‟ structure of Vassar College that would exist as
a semi permanent display device of academic, curricular, and cultural spatial information.
2006-2007 Associate Professor NTU, Singapore.
Taught at NTU in interactive digital media. Worked on various projects within the funding structure of NTU and the Singapore
government.
Worked with iCell in Singapore developing public arts and city-wide WIFI integration.
Worked on 1mil grant on the interactive apartment for the NTU initiative.
Worked on and received a 5 k grant on the “Self and other in the telematic Sphere”.
Traveled and lectured at various se Asian countries such as Cambodia, Vietnam, India, Japan
Lectured at Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai India. …. Distance collaborations in the telematic world.
Conducted yearly study abroad programs in Rome teaching various classes such as interpreting visual culture, sex and politics in Italian cinema,
anthropology of another culture, where there were weekly collaborations and public projections on such Roman monuments such as the coliseum,
Ponte Roto, and campo di Fiori. Conducted collaborations with various dance groups in Rome.
Received a 48k grant Sim NGO: a simulated space and game structure for the instruction of civic culture and grant and fundraising collaborations
for globally based NGOs.
Contributed to the winning bid put together the RFP with Postco Company for the Incheon expo bid. The total contribution was 150mil. The team
contribution was 5m for the performance and interactive media component.
Integrated telematic spaces with a hybrid performance of Bacchae at Monkeytown in NYC.
Taught various classes such as interactive public art and interactive scenography and display media. Worked on Curriculum development.

2004-University of Stony Brook Italian Program, Rome: Taught summer session college courses in Italian Cinema, Video Ethnography, and Digital
Media projects in Rome.
2003- Ongoing: Eventology/Flux Communications, Seoul, South Korea, Averaged two RFPs a week with a 20% success rate. Integrating
Architecture, design, and WIFI telecommunications systems for Dongta Construction and Design Industries. Hwasong Towers 70,000 person
occupancy, 1.2 Billion dollar bid partial contract awarded. Integration of cultural information and WIFI systems with park and public spaces. Met
with governor of Jeju Island on the creation of a China Sea free trade zone Media University-ongoing. Lectured directly to members of „Blue
House‟ ministers on present and future uses of telecom and culture initiatives. $800,000 RFP presently with the Minister of Information, Blue
House, on public Arts projects in „Pervasive Computing. Ongoing research on immersive environments, convergence digital media, delivery
systems, WIFI integration with civic public space, Narratology and global applications of technology through culture.
2002 International Design School for Advanced Studies (with Korean National Government grant, $60,000, for Industrial Development). Teach
three graduate courses in digital media and the interactive environment per semester; consult to CEO and research and development departments
of Samsung, LG, SK, and various electronic Corporations. Issued at least two RFPs per week to various Korean, Chinese, culture and technology
projects including the Quanju Biannale, City of Seoul Mayor‟s office, and the World Cup Planning Committee. On planning committee of 2 million
dollar Design Innovation Center, IDAS, Seoul. Project Planning meetings with Beijing Institute of Design, Fudan University, Shanghai. Ongoing
Projects and RFPs in China. $80,000 grant from Intercommunication University for installation and research in „The Immersive Environment‟, IDAS,
Seoul.
2001-CW Post. Professor, Graduate studies in digital media culture.
Eventology Office, New York City. Projects in multimedia installation and performance. Courses/workshops in Interpretation of visual culture,
Scenography, Digital Media and the integration in the performance environment, and Information Culture.
Taught classes in Performance and New Media, Graphic Software in the 2-d and 3-d Design Process. Taught Classes in Visual and literary
interpretation. Integrated various graphic and multi media applications to the design and performance process.
Developed a curriculum and lecture series on such subjects as Elementary scenic design, Advanced Scenic Design, Designing, Image and script
analysis, Design practicum and Stagecraft, and the uses of digital technologies in Scenography and multimedia fields. Worked with CAD systems
such as Mini Cad 7 and Auto CAD 12, Infi-D, Virtus Bryce, I movie, final cut, Vectorworks, Walkthrough for space configuration. Worked with
Quark Express and Adobe Photoshop to produce graphic material and image manipulation. Integrated Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, MultiMedia Design within the classroom setting. Work performed on MACINTOSH platform and integrated these into all courses taught including theory
of performance.
Sept 2000-Co-Director of the New York Center for Media Arts with Prof. Young Woo Lee. Initial co-director for the inception, funding, planning, of
a 12,000 sq. ft. center of media culture in Long Island City. Initial funds of $800,000. Artists represented were Nam Jun Paik, and a group of
twelve Asian, European, and American digital media artists.
Sept 1998-present-Co-Founder, Artistic Director of Dome Artists/Outreach, NYC, NY. A digital media and education NGO/501c3 agency devoted
to monthly projects in performance, digital media, and outreach/education. June 99-Aug99. Lecture series of seven speakers and one installation:
Postmodern Geographies, the Female Don Juan, Globalism and Displacement, Photographic Installation and Persian Culture, Post-Colonialism,
Internet Cultures and the New Global Cultural Collaboration, Persian Culture Today: Installation and Performance, Performance and Multimedia in
Korea: collaborative Grant with Hyundai Corporation of $2 million with Nam June Paik as collaborator, Installation on Postmodern geographies,
Tribecca Park New York City. Granted awards: Lower Manhattan cultural commission, Jerome, Korea Foundation, JUSSPA, Japan Foundation,
Sept. 1993-1997 Assistant Professor/Designer in Residence, Smith College: Developed a curriculum and lecture series on such subjects as
Elementary Scenic Design, Advanced Scenic Design, Designing, Image and script analysis, Design practicum and Stagecraft, and the uses of
digital technologies in Scenography and Multimedia fields. Developed methods of transferring written and graphic information to authoring systems
on the computer and Internet. Organized for building of sets and projects. Received a Gladys Brooks Foundation grant for the development of
multimedia and CAD for the computer environment. Taught Scenic painting and properties construction. Worked with CAD systems for space
configuration. Productions include: Dancing at Lughnasa, Late Bus to Mecca, Tough, Mistero Buffo, Night Sky, Bus Stop, Combination Skin, RAW,
King Stag, and Others. Supervision on all students designed projects. Worked on projects in costume and lighting design.
