CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILY (CYF) MINISTRY LEADER Lutheran Church of Peace, Maplewood, MN OVERVIEW Position Purpose The CYF Ministry Leader provides engaging and meaningful children, youth, and family opportunities in education, activities to promote a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and involvement with the faith community. Long range responsibilities will include youth from birth through high school and their families. SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Relationship Driven The successful candidate will have the ability to relate to youth; lead faith formation discussions; plan and lead social activities; etc. For example: Leading Wednesday Evening Youth Programming during the academic year Planning Social Events (e.g. lock-ins, movie nights, etc.) Mentoring and engaging youth through participation in community and other events Vision The successful candidate will have the ability to look beyond current programming for middle school and high school youth, working towards a more complete model of youth and family ministry. For example: Working with various committees to develop/expand CYF vision Expanding to include youth of all ages (birth through high school), and exploring new materials and programs and participating in faith formation events for youth ages 0 to 18 and their families. Providing resources for families, working to equip parents to be faith leaders in their home. Administrative/Organizational The successful candidate will have the ability to plan, recruit and logistically keep the program moving along. For example: Coordinate efforts to recruit youth and adults to more fully participate in CYF related events Plan and lead Youth Ministry Team Volunteers, working closely with the Youth Ministry Team Committee. Work with the Education Committee, coordinating Sunday School curriculum Coordinate summer opportunities such as Vacation Bible School, Summer Stretch, Mission Trips, etc. Communicate effectively with the church community about various CYF activities through a variety of media. Attend council meetings as necessary Report to, and partner in ministry with, the pastor Support and partner with office staff, other program staff, and volunteers QUALIFICATIONS A strong personal faith in God through Jesus Christ, demonstrated accordingly Undergraduate College Degree Ability and willingness to pass a background and drug test Must successfully complete Youth Protection Training Program Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages Strong organization and communication skills Valid driver’s license 20 – 25 hours per week to start
