The Organization:
Future West is a non-profit organization that helps communities create the future that they
want. We do this by providing needed information, technical assistance, group facilitation, and
training to key land use decision makers such as rural landowners, local government officials,
land managers, and the conservation community. Based in Bozeman, Montana, Future West is
engaged in collaborative, community-based conservation projects in the Rocky Mountain and
High Plains region. Future West works on a wide variety of Western issues including land use
planning, river protection, ecological restoration, energy and transmission, and sustainable

Position Summary:
This Future West Program Manager position will focus on managing and initiating conservation,
land use and rural development projects in the Northern Rockies, primarily in Montana, Idaho
and Wyoming. Based in Bozeman but able to travel extensively around the region, this
individual will cultivate good working relationships with a variety of individuals and
organizations and in a collaborative fashion, assist them in achieving their conservation and
rural development goals. Together with community partners, this individual will help identify
project goals, facilitate civil dialogue, develop strategies to engage decision makers and local
citizens, and provide the resources (i.e. technical information) needed to successfully bring
projects to fruition. Projects could involve natural resource conservation and restoration work,
sustainable rural development, capacity building and training, and facilitation services to other
non-profits and community organizations.
Qualifications:

An entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to inspire and assist in the accomplishment of
significant on-the-ground collaborative conservation and rural development goals.









Ability to seek out and develop new program and project initiatives.
Academic training (minimum Bachelors degree) and extensive field experience in
natural resource conservation, watershed management, land use planning, rural
economic development, or other related fields.
Strong relationship building skills, and the ability to work harmoniously with diverse
people in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to professionally
research related issues and present these findings in a credible and compelling manner.
Ability to travel frequently (mostly in region) and work in a rural environment,
sometimes with only minimal direct supervision.
First-hand knowledge and a strong appreciation of the natural resources, communities,
conservation and land use issues, and the people of the Northern Rockies.
Group facilitation, community organizing, and project management skills.
Solid fundraising and financial management experience and an ability to create and
respond to timelines and budgets.
Understanding of and willingness to support administrative functions of the
organization including IT skills.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, salaried position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
