WELCOME TO THE MASTER JOINERS CONFERENCE 2015
We extend a warm welcome to the 66th annual conference, another chance for our industry to learn of new events, meet with key suppliers, to up-skill and
almost as important is the networking within our industry. This year sees another increase in sponsorship with 22 confirmed exhibitors. Wellington - the
nation’s capital, I’m sure we will have an ‘Absolutely Positively’ great conference!
This year sees us in a purpose built venue on Wellington’s vibrant waterfront, Mac’s Function Centre, just a short walk from both of the conference
accommodation hotels. There will be plenty of space on Thursday night for us to mingle at the ‘Wellington Welcome’ drinks upstairs in the sponsors’ area.
Friday evening we’re off to the multi-award winning design studio servicing the world’s entertainment and creative industries… Weta Workshop. A guided tour
of the Weta Cave including blood-making and chainmaille workshops by Weta Technicians, followed by drinks & canapés in the Grand Lobby of the iconic
Roxy Theatre to end an amazing evening.
On Saturday afternoon there are two planned lunch options, both taking place in relaxed environments giving time to catch up with your contemporaries.
Choose from a cable car ride to The Carter Observatory or a trip to Zealandia for a taste of remarkable nature in the sanctuary valley. Lunch will be provided
at both venues and the programme has further details.
Our two Keynote speakers are again outstanding, Nigel Latta and Davey Hughes. Nigel is a psychologist and author, and known from the TV series
‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to…’ which has run for three seasons in New Zealand and is now airing in Australia. Davey went from possum trapper
to international clothing entrepreneur when he couldn’t find the right gear for hunting! He has also appeared on TV One’s Border Patrol, with interesting
souvenirs of his travels... guns, tusks, furs and other weird stuff!
The Awards Dinner will be held at Mac’s Function Centre upstairs in the combined Te Aro and Waterfront Rooms and promises to be
a fabulous evening. Why not bring your partner and take the opportunity to explore this region pre or post conference - Wellington, the
coolest little capital in the world!

Nigel Latta, TV star ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to….…’
Nigel Latta is a registered clinical psychologist and author. You may recognise Nigel from “The Politically Incorrect Guide to…” series which
has run for three seasons in New Zealand and is now airing in Australia. Nigel is known for talking frankly to his audience about what’s really
going on with people in life and in business in an engaging and humorous manner. Born and raised in Oamaru, he spent his high school years
at Waitaki Boys High School, then went on to Otago University – where he completed an MSc in Marine Science. Following that, Nigel moved to
Auckland where he trained as a clinical psychologist and worked there for some 17 years in a number of agencies including Drug and Alcohol
rehabilitation, Sex Offender Treatment Programmes, Family Therapy agencies, Child Youth and Family, Probation Services, as well as in private
practice.
Nigel currently works in Auckland as a clinical psychologist in private practice and continues to consult with organisations and agencies
throughout the country working mainly with children and young people, as well as adult forensic work. He lectures on a number of senior courses
at the New Zealand Police College. In 2012 Nigel was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to Psychology.

Davey has hunted Caribou in the Arctic Circle, grizzlies in Alaska and buffalo in Tanzania. He’s the bane of New Zealand Customs
officials’ lives, has run the gruelling Coast to Coast adventure race 3 times in the past 4 years, and is the man behind the highlysuccessful Swazi outdoor clothing label; he’s a passionate conservationist and he sure knows how to spin a yarn or two. Davey Hughes
– aka the Swazi Man – is many things, but one thing he’s most certainly not is conventional.
As a kid growing up in Wainuiomata, he spent the weekends in the hills going after pigs and possums. But there’s more to the Swazi Man
than hunting and a taste for adventure. He has built an outdoor clothing company on the proudly made-in-New Zealand ‘Swazi’ brand;
and he wants to get more kids into our back-country having the roughing-it adventures that kick-started his remarkable life. Davey lives
life to the full, but what underpins all of this is his absolute love of the great outdoors.
Davey has appeared on TV3’s 60 Minutes and the "Border Patrol" series. He’s often in the news with his outspoken views on being in love
with all things New Zealand and his clothing brand has gained a worldwide reputation for making the best outdoor wear in the world.

1) Cable Car to Carter Observatory
Walk 10 minutes from Mac’s Function Centre to Wellington Cable Car which runs every 10 minutes, climbing 120 metres in 5 minutes. At the top, the Cable
Car Lookout affords stunning views over the city and the harbour. The Carter Observatory and Planetarium is 2 minutes from the top of the cable car and has
inspiring multimedia exhibitions and some of NZ’s most prestigious astronomical artefacts. Enjoy the show surrounding the stars and galaxy in the digital fulldome planetarium. Lunch in the OMV room, then roam the galleries including the heritage Thomas Cooke Telescope.
Visit the Cable Car Museum which is situated within the original winding house and has two of the original cars and the winding gear once used to haul them up the steep incline. You can take the cable car back down, or you may choose to enjoy a leisurely downhill walk through the Botanic
Garden to the city. The gardens comprise 25 hectares of protected native forest, conifers, specialised plant collections and colourful floral displays. 2) Zealandia
Bus to Zealandia where you will step into a nature lover’s paradise and groundbreaking restoration project. Lunch in a stunning setting at the Rata Café.
Step back 1,000 years at the Exhibition, to the ‘day before humans arrived’. Stand face-to-face with the ten foot-high moa and the man-eating Haast’s eagle.
Explore the Sanctuary Valley, the world’s first fully-fenced urban eco-sanctuary. See some of NZ’s rarest birds, reptiles and insects living wild in their natural
environment. Once on the brink of extinction, they are now recovering within Sanctuary Valley.

If you haven’t visited the Te Papa Museum already, or didn’t have time to view all levels on a previous visit, this is the opportune time to ensure you haven’t

Learn how to use a soda siphon to make classic soda fountain drinks. Experiment with garnishes and different ingredients to make your perfect thirst quencher. Make a few drinks and have a good old time!
Fix and Fogg Peanut Butter
Smooth and Super Crunchy. Hear about how they produce small batches of peanut butter by hand from freshly roasted peanuts. They slowly grind the peanuts then mill the crunchy pieces, and blend by hand. At the window you are welcome to try their peanut butter and buy jars.
Wellington Chocolate Factory
A staff member will introduce you to the entire chocolate-making process. You can walk through the factory, finding out where the beans come from, the conditions under which they are grown, how they roast, crack, winnow, conch and temper their chocolate using custom built equipment. REGISTRATION FEE includes satchel, conference sessions, Wellington Welcome and some drinks on Thursday night, Friday teas and lunch, Saturday breakfast
and lunches (choice of two options). Additional tickets for Wellington Welcome and the two lunch options can be purchased for partners via the registration form.
ACCOMMODATION has been reserved at the Amora Hotel & Ibis Hotels. Please complete the accommodation section on the Registration Form. The rates
are only available if your booking is made through the conference organisers. A minimum deposit of $100 must accompany bookings. Accommodation will be
allocated on a first come first served basis and after 25 May 2015 we cannot guarantee availability as unallocated rooms will be released back to the hotel.
Please advise the Conference Organisers of any changes and not the hotel directly.
The balance of the account is to be settled with the hotel by the delegate on departure and details of your hotel booking will be included with your confirmation.
TRAVEL Delegates should make their own travel arrangements to Wellington. Early flight bookings are recommended. The airport is about a 15 minute taxi ride to
the conference venue and accommodation.
CANCELLATION POLICY Once confirmation of your registration has been sent, the cancellation policy takes effect. ● A refund of registration fees less
administration fee of $49.00 + GST will be made for cancellations received in writing by 11 June 2015. The cancellation fee is still payable even if registration
fees have not been paid. ● Refunds after 11 June 2015 will be at the discretion of the Organising Committee. ● If fees have not been paid prior to conference,
and the registrant is unable to attend, the registrant is responsible for, and will be invoiced for committed costs accordingly. ● If for reasons beyond the control of
the organisers, conference is cancelled, registration fees will be refunded ● Hotel cancellation fees vary and you will be advised any costs upon receipt of your
cancellation, these costs are your responsibility.
