ACT-SO Students Prepare for Nationals in Philadelphia
March 30, 2015 – Jackson, MS - Eight students from Central Mississippi are heading to
the City of Brotherly Love for their chance to compete in the National ACT-SO
Competition July 9-12, 2015 during the National NAACP Convention. Four Jackson
Public School students, one student from North Pike High School, one student from
Humphreys County High School, and 2 students from Hattiesburg High School are packing
their bags for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in hopes of bringing the national title home. See
all of the winners in the Mississippi NAACP ACT-SO Competition, held March 7, 2015,

ACT-SO stands for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics, and
is a major youth initiative of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP). ACT-SO provides a forum through which African-American youth can
demonstrate academic, artistic and scientific excellence, and showcase their talents in state
and national competitions. Mississippi brought one national silver medal home in 2014 in
music vocal classical.
