Guidelines
2015/16 Festivals & Events Program
Objective
Provides financial assistance, to a maximum
of $3,000, to Nova Scotia festivals and events
which help attract visitors to the province and
encourage them to stay longer and spend
more in the region.
Eligibility
Applicants:
• Municipalities and registered not-for-profit
organizations that conduct tourism-related
activities and programs that benefit the
province or region. Must be in good
standing with the Provincial Registry of
Joint Stock Companies.
• Promotional materials (trinkets, t-shirts,
banners, flags, floats, etc.)
Project Expenditures and
Application Deadline
Project expenditures must take place between
April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016.
Project application deadline is March 31, 2015.
Program Conditions
• Applications submitted by previously funded
festival and event organizations that failed
to submit a final report are ineligible and will
not be considered.
Successful applicants will work with their
Regional Tourism Industry Association (RTIA)
and NSTA to promote their festival or event via
existing and appropriate channels.
• Festival and event organizations within
the Halifax Regional Municipality are not
eligible for funding under this program. Organizations can apply directly to HRM’s
2015/2016 Event Grants at www.halifax.ca/
events/grants.
Projects supported must include the Nova Scotia
visual identity and novascotia.com logo to credit
NSTA support.
Projects:
• Marketing and promotion of a tourism
festival or event.
• Other activities will be considered if they
have the potential to attract visitors to
come to the event and spend more time in
the community.
• Priority will be given to marketing projects
that target potential visitors from outside
the community and encourage them to stay
longer and spend more.
• Priority will be given to applications with
digital marketing initiatives.
Ineligible Project Costs:
• Operating and capital costs including:
staff, office equipment, supplies and basic
office expenditures
• Website maintenance and hosting costs

• Membership fees, charitable fundraising
events, conventions, conferences, meetings,
workshops, seminars, clinics, award
ceremonies, VIP visits, etc.
A final report with project evaluation and proof
of payments must be submitted to your RTIA/
NSTA within 90 days of the event or festival.

event listing criteria found at:
partners.novascotia.com/content/support
and your event is published on
novascotia.com/events.
2. Complete the Festivals & Events Program
Application Form.
3. Submit application and financial
information to your RTIA or NSTA
prior to program deadline.
4. The RTIA will review applications
and make recommendations for project
funding to the NSTA.
5. The NSTA will evaluate recommendations
and confirm funding directly to the RTIAs
or direct to the applicant for Southwest
Nova Scotia. The review and evaluation
process will take approximately 6–8 weeks.
