CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Position Title: Unit: Duty Station: Type of Appointment: Regional Migration Health Intern Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific Bangkok, Thailand Internship Contract, 6 months Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the principal intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. Context IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, and addressing forced migration. Cross-cutting activities include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants’ rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration. The Regional Migration Health Adviser is responsible and accountable for technical coordination on regional matters of Health Promotion and Assistance for Migrants (H2) and Migration Health Assistance for Crisis Affected Populations (H3) Programmes undertaken by IOM in the region covered by the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. This is a request for CVs/expression of interest for an internship opening to support the Regional Migration Health Adviser in his/her work. Scope of Work Under the overall guidance of the Regional Director and the direct supervision of the Regional Migration Health Adviser in the IOM Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, the incumbent will assist the Regional Migration Health Unit, and will have the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Support the development of quality concept papers, presentations, and reports by researching and reporting on information and topics assigned by the Regional Migration Health Adviser. 2. Assist in the editing of project concept papers and proposals, donor reports and other publications referred from the country missions to the Regional Migration Health Adviser for review and endorsement. 3. Contribute to data collection and analysis and in writing reports and preparing or editing presentations on migration and international health issues and topics. Research or review migration health issue developments to provide technical support for presentations and papers produced by the Regional Migration Health Unit. 4. Assist in monitoring regional migration health project information. Analyze and collate reports from the Project Information Unit, project managers and coordinators and focal points in Country Offices who are implementing migration health projects for status updates and relevant project documentation. Provide Regional Migration Health Adviser with status reports and reviews of project developments. Compile and update shared information about Regional Migration Health activities and programmes. Review and update project database, project file folders, guidance sheets, reports and other relevant information. Facilitate consolidation and distribution of project documents (e.g. concept notes and reports), publications, and guidance with the approval of the Regional Migration Health Adviser. Track Regional Migration Health Unit’s activity for production of quarterly report. Assist in the planning and organization of exhibitions, meetings, conferences, seminars and workshops when needed. In the absence of the Regional Migration Health Adviser and other regional health staff, respond to calls, emails and queries from the country missions, other units, partners and agencies and report immediately to Migration Health Adviser when possible. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Regional Migration Health Adviser. Eligibility and Selection The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 19 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The Internship Programme is open to candidates of any nationality. Minimum Experience and Requirements a) ƵƌƌĞŶƚ undergraduate ƐƚƵĚĞŶƚ in medicine, nursing, public health or related social sciences fields and/or equivalent of; b) Prior knowledge or experience working on migration or health issues; c) Able to adapt to an international, multicultural, multilingual environment; d) Good communication skills and able to work in a team; e) Advanced English writing and communication skills; f) Familiarity with computer programs, including MS Office programs and internet applications. Knowledge on data analysis application and mapping application is a plus. Desired Qualifications Experience working in a multi-cultural setting; Detail-oriented; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Accepts and gives constructive criticism; Sensitive to gender issues, personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility. General Information a) Interns are granted a stipend of Baht 9,250.- per month as partial contribution to accommodation and living expenses. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her University or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. b) Any work produced by interns during their internship within the framework of the duties assigned to them should be used for academic purposes exclusively. All economic and moral rights (copyright) pertaining to such work will remain the exclusive property of IOM. c) Internships carry no expectancy of employment by IOM and the intern cannot be appointed to any position with IOM during the period of internship.
