Job Description Position Description: Community Builder Position Category: Non-exempt/Hourly Purpose of Position: Serves as liaison between NeighborWorks® Lincoln and Lincoln neighborhoods. The Community Builder will plan, formulate, coordinate and implement neighborhood revitalization strategies to achieve neighborhood, agency, and City objectives, with primary responsibility for community development. Principle Duties: Work with existing community assessments and residents to identify specific issues related to crime, safety and quality of life. Assist community residents with identification and coordination of community development projects for action. Develop and facilitate resident leadership curriculum. Recruit and coordinate practicum students and volunteers for neighborhood projects and revitalization activities. Provide guidance, identify resources and support for community leadership groups to successfully achieve goals for neighborhood/community improvements. Develop, facilitate and assist with maintaining effective working relationships with and between residents, advisory groups, action groups, city groups, organizations, and/or agencies. Conduct neighborhood door to door “knock and talks”. Research best practices for community development work and identify potential community engagement initiatives and programs. Assist in the identification of new funding sources. Assist the Chief Development Officer in the preparation of individual grant proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization's preferences and follow exactly each grant-making organization's guidelines as it pertains to community building. Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a community building and organizing project or program. Recruit resident membership for ad hoc neighborhood groups that work toward policy change to improve neighborhoods. Initiate contact with community residents through neighborhood organizations, existing partnerships, networking opportunities and neighborhood events as well as seeking new opportunities. Identify residents to represent the target community’s diversity through individual contacts, recruitment and use of translators. Prepare and present agency information to other agencies, neighborhood groups and residential groups. Attend all required agency and community meetings. Performs all other duties as it relates to the improvement of the quality of life for neighborhood residents as assigned by Chief Operating Officer. Preferred interests/Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in urban studies, political science, social work, community planning or related field. Previous relevant community development experience is mandatory. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Basic financial skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and all personnel. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Exhibit strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling. Ability to express clearly, orally, and in writing. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks; detail oriented. Ability to work effectively, efficiently, independently or with minimal supervision as needed. Will maintain confidentiality on all aspects of the organization Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends. Supervision: The Community Builder will work under the supervision and direction of the Chief Operating Officer.
