Events and Marketing Assistant
The purpose of this position is:

To provide marketing, fundraising and admin support to the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation in the
build-up to the Pink Star Walk in October
To assist with the development of resources that will improve the NZBCF’s fundraising capabilities over the
long term
You will promote the mission of The Foundation to prevent New Zealanders developing and dying from breast
cancer. Our work encompasses education, awareness, research, medical support and development,
community outreach and advocacy.

Background
The Pink Star Walk is an annual event held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during October. Last year
4,000 men, women and children dressed in pink and took to the streets whilst raising money for The NZBCF. This
role will focus on the marketing of all three events and support of the participants in the lead-up to the day.
Key Task #1 – Pink Star Walk marketing
Implementation of the marketing plan for the three events.
 Working alongside the Fundraising Development Manager to implement the identified marketing activities to
encourage participation of walkers in a Pink Star Walk event.
 Updating the NZBCF website and social media platforms with up to date and relevant information regarding
Pink Star Walk.
 Liaising with the Event Organiser and committee on plans and implementation of marketing activities –
keeping them up to date and tracking their actions.
 Researching new online and offline ways to promote the event in each of the Pink Star Walk locations.
Key Task #2 – Pink Star Walk participant logistics and support
 Working alongside the Fundraising Development Manager to support participants of the walk – responding to
enquiries, arranging and dispatching walker packs and processing registrations.
 Sending of regular emails to all participants encouraging them to fundraise, sign up their friends and train (for
half marathon distance).
Key Task #3 – General Breast Cancer Month and fundraising support
 Assistance with the upkeep of the database - ensuring correct and relevant information is recorded and
exported to be used during the campaign.
 Assisting the Fundraising Development Manager and Fundraising Coordinator in other fundraising areas in the
lead up to Breast Cancer Month including but not limited to Pink for a Day, NZBCF Retail Appeal and
Community Events.
Knowledge/Experience

Understanding of different marketing techniques
Customer service experience preferred
Some understanding of the not for profit sector
Ability to work well in a team environment
Knowledge of Wellington and/or Christchurch would be advantageous

Knowledge of Facebook and Twitter, and ability to grasp instructions for updating the website

Friendly and confident manner
Due to the nature of this role there will be some weekend work and travel to each city on the event days.
Preference will be given to students who are available to work until November 7th when the last event occurs.

Remuneration: This is a voluntary role. An allowance will be paid to cover travel/parking costs and lunch.
