The Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, invites applications from Public Officers in the Malta Public Service for the post of Technician/Senior Technician (Draughtsperson) at the Design Unit, in the Project Design & Engineering Directorate in the Works and Infrastructure Department within the Ministry for Transport & Infrastructure. Public Officers in the Malta Public Service who are on secondment/on loan/detailed with/deployed with/on attachment to Public Sector Organisations may also apply Terms and Conditions 2.1 The salary for the post of Technician/Senior Technician (Draughtsperson) – Design Unit is Salary Scale 15, that is, €12,810.00 per annum, rising by annual increments of €298.00 up to a maximum of €14,598.00. 2.2. A Technician (Draughtsperson) – Design Unit will be promoted to the grade of Senior Technician in Scale 14 (€13,659.02 x €316.83 - €15,560.00) on completion of seven (7) years service in the grade. In the case of persons in possession of a Higher Technician Diploma or a recognized, appropriate, comparable or higher technical qualification, the period of service will be reduced to five (5) years, subject to satisfactory performance. 2.3 The Higher Technician Diploma is rated at MQF level 5. A person in possession of an MQF Level 4 appropriate qualification, followed by two (2) years proven appropriate experience shall be deemed to satisfy the clause ‘Higher Technician Diploma or a recognised, appropriate, comparable or higher technical qualification’. Duties 3. The duties of Technician (Draughtsperson) at the Design Unit include: a) Preparation and finalization of all types of architectural, structural and landscaping plans, working drawings and designs of all types of building and planning schemes. Production of presentation drawings, drawings for planning applications and tender drawings by AutoCAD or any other computer aided design application or with traditional drafting method; b) Detailing of architectural, structural and landscaping plans as per sketches prepared by Architect and Structural Engineer; c) Measurement of existing projects (buildings, landscaped areas etc.) on site and preparation of ‘as existing’ or ‘as built drawings’; d) Interpreting architects’ sketches and preparation of drawings from these sketches using digital format (using AutoCAD etc); e) Preparation of adequate Log Book record of works; f) Assisting architects, engineers and technical staff in technical aspects; g) Work in connection with keeping of records and technical file correspondence; h) Calculate dimensions with precision; i) Compile data and bending schedule drawing; j) Revise drawings and layouts to accommodate changes; k) Compute basic arithmetical tasks such as calculating areas and volumes; l) Help architect and engineer visualize concepts through verbal interaction and graphical communication; m) Printing of digital plans, maps and other documents using plotters or printers; n) Any other duties according to the exigencies of the Public Service as directed by the Principal Permanent Secretary. Eligibility requirements 4.1 By the closing time and date of this call for applications, applicants must be Public Officers a) who have successfully completed a course of study under the Technician Apprenticeship Scheme (TAS) or an appropriate, recognised, comparable qualification; OR b) in possession of at least the Ordinary Technician Diploma (OTD) or an appropriate, recognised, comparable qualification For the purpose of para 4.1 (a), the Science Laboratory Technician Trainee Course, is to be considered as comparable to the Technician Apprenticeship Scheme (TAS) Qualifications at a level higher than that specified above will be accepted for eligibility purposes, provided they meet any specified subject requirements. Moreover, candidates who have not yet formally obtained any of the above-mentioned qualifications will still be considered, provided that they submit evidence that they have been approved for the award of the qualifications in question by the closing time and date of the call for applications. 4.2 Due consideration will be given to applicants who, besides the requisites indicated in paragraph 4.1, have proven relevant work experience. 4.3 Prospective applicants should note the requirement to produce MQRIC recognition statements in respect of their qualifications from MQRIC, or other designated authorities, as applicable, as per provisions applicable to this call for applications (see link below). Submission of supporting documentation 5.1 Qualifications and experience claimed must be supported by certificates and/or testimonials, copies of which should be attached to the application. Scanned copies sent electronically are acceptable. 5.2 Original certificates and/or testimonials are to be invariably produced for verification at the interview. Selection procedure 6. Eligible applicants will be assessed by a Selection Board to determine their suitability for the post. Submission of applications 7.
