MY name is Freddy Moors, I married Hilda Lambrechts in 1969 and have two children and five grandchildren. We both grew up in Zonhoven, but moved to Heppen (Leopoldsburg) in 1972. My wife Hilda had eleven brothers and sisters. Chris is her nephew from her brother Willy. A few times a year the Lambrechts family (now roughly 100 family members) get together for New Year and a summer BBQ so that we can catch up with each other. I have of course known Chris since he was a baby, having bounced him on my knee, but didn’t really know Kacie having only met her during our semi annual family get gatherings. But during our BBQ in 2013 I was sitting with Chris and Kacie discussing a ski trip that we make every year with a few members of the family that is when Chris mentioned that he and Kacie would like to go skiing as well. He mentioned that Kacie had been diagnosed with melanoma and it had been a difficult year with operations and lots of doctor appointments. He thought skiing would be a nice get away. We of course where glad to have them come along. During our 4 days in Hinterglemm Austria we had a great time catching up and getting to know each other skiing from morning until evening and of course Apré Ski! Sometimes skiing back to the hotel in the dark just in time for our evening meal. It was a great weekend. From Uncle and Nephew to friends. I am a recreational cyclist and ride three times a week with friends 50 to 100km at a fairly good pace of 25km/h with the all-important Abbey beer at the finish. So after our ski trip I kept up with Kacie’s plans and bike rides with 2climb2raise and her trip to the Alpe d’ Huez via facebook. I followed the live television programs of the Alpe d’ HuZes events and all the stories of cancer patients, families and friends. I am not ashamed to say that I followed it with tears in eyes, but also and tons of respect for everyone that participated. After Kacie’s diagnosis the week after the Alpe d’ Huez I sent her a message of good luck and mentioned how great I thought the Alpe d’ HuZes was. She immediately sent me a message back that she wanted to do it again in 2015 so we should do it together. Without needing to think about it my answer was yes! Chris quickly bought himself a bike and all the gear and Our Zonhoven Bike Club was now real. During the summer of 2014 and now in 2015 we have many great rides and are looking forward to the big even in June. Now Team KFC (Kacie Freddy Chris) Kacie Fighting Cancer is a reality!
