Annual EPCCA Picnic at Whyalla
Saturday 28th March & Sunday 29th March 2015
The Whyalla Photography group are pleased to host this event and provide the following
information to assist you in your planning. The Cowell/Cleve Photography Club is responsible for
organising and contacting you re the entries and rules of the Photography competition.
Financial members of the Whyalla Photography group, if unable to attend all events scheduled for
this weekend, are able to come to individual events including the Saturday night dinner at the Golf
Club. Please register as per instructions.
The event in Whyalla:
Registration:

University of SA, Nicolson Avenue, Whyalla from 9.30 am Saturday. If possible, please
bring your own name tags. It is essential that you register so that we can provide you with
entry cards to the event/function that you have paid for.
Cost for weekend:

$20 covers morning and afternoon tea and lunch on Sunday
Lunch by the Royal Flying Doctor volunteers on Sunday will be in the Ada Ryan Gardens
from 11 am.
Please note: Dinner on Saturday night at the Golf Club needs to be paid on return of entry
form. The venue will be exclusive to EPCCA for this evening’s event. Meal cost $45 per
person which includes choice of 2 mains and choice of 2 sweet dishes plus coffee and tea.
Drinks from bar at own cost.

Display of Photos:

Photos will be on display at the University of SA, Nicolson Avenue, Whyalla from
Saturday 28th March from 9.30am to 4 pm. (see map page 5 – enter from Russell
Street, park in car park and follow signs to EPCCA event) )

Events on Saturday 28th March 2015:
1: EPCCA Annual General Meeting
•
Delegates meet on Saturday 28th March at 10.30 am at the University of SA, Nicolson
Avenue, in the room next door to the display of photos.
2: Lunch
• Some options include: Bring your own, Beach Café – foreshore Whyalla, Kafe
Luguna, 94 Essington Lewis Avenue, Hotels for counter meals, Café Espresso
Patterson Street Whyalla and Westland Shopping Centre Food Court.
3: Afternoon
• 1.45 pm– 4.00 pm You will have the choice of selecting an event from the following.
These events will lead by a Whyalla Photography group member. Please complete
your choice of event on attachment.

Whyalla Conservation Park (Wild Dog Hill)
•
•
This event is approximately 10 kms from Whyalla on the Pt Augusta Road. Drive into
the car park and then walk to the top of Wild Dog Hill. Its features and imposing profile
make it a popular picnic location. Weathering has produced large cracks in the face
which gives the hill its character. This is medium impact event. (some climbing,
moderate fitness and enclosed footwear)
Meet at the Information Centre on Pt Augusta road at 1.45 pm.
Arrium Steelworks Tour/ Ship tour and museum

The group will meet at the Information Centre on Pt Augusta road at 1.45pm. This
event will start with a 45 minute guided tour of the ship, followed by a 45 minute tour of
the museum. Then we will depart on the bus for a one and half hour steel works tour.

There are only 22 seats available on the steel tour bus so nominating for this event
is
essential. The subsidized cost for these events is $20 and must be paid on
return of your entry form. Enclosed footwear is required for this tour.
Drive to Pt Lowly and coast road
•
•
(please note the coast road is unsealed, 2WD with care) This spectacular coastline has
plenty to offer with the Spencer Gulf framed by the Flinders Rangers. The lighthouse at Pt
Lowly is a highlight as well as the industrial site of Santos. Included are many national
features such as unique Shingle Beach Ridges.
Meet at the Information Centre on Pt Augusta road at 1.45 pm.

6.30pm at the Whyalla Golf Club, Whyalla Golf Club McBryde Terrace– enter from Pt
Augusta Road or Norrie Avenue extension
Trophy Presentation: throughout the evening at the Whyalla Golf Club
Evening entertainment – enjoying each other’s company with lots of laughter and
networking.
Events for Sunday 29th March 2015:
We have a number of free choice activities.
Self guided City tour:
Flinders and Freycinet Lookout, Farrell Street - Map H3
Civic Building mural Darling Terrace - Map G2 opposite Post Office
Main street – historical information boards on history of buildings – mainly along Patterson and
Forsyth Street - Map G 2
Hummock Hill lookout – Queen Elizabeth Drive – Map H1
Ada Ryan Gardens- Cudmore Terrace – Map H2
Foreshore and Marina with dolphins when boats enter marina - Map I 2
Beach café for breakfast and/or morning tea from 9.00 am – Foreshore Map I 2
Whyalla Wetlands: Lincoln Hwy Map H 7
7 hectares of artifical lakes with walking track plus time visit to foreshore
Lunch from 11 am on Sunday at the Ada Ryan Gardens, Cudmore Terrace Map H 2. Lunch
is catered for and covered in entry fee. Look on lawns for Royal Flying Doctor portable
food stall.
Special thanks:
The bus that is being used on Saturday March 28th for the Arrium Steel Works tour
has been provided free of cost by Des’s Transport of Whyalla. They have also
agreed for Jeffrey Venning, one of their staff to drive this bus for this event.
Also note that the Whyalla branch of Royal Flying Doctor are receiving a donation
for their work in catering for the lunch on Sunday.
