The Revd Dawn Banting is at St Mark’s, North End this morning and members of the clergy are at St Luke’s this evening for Revd Annie McCabe’s licensing as priest in charge of our Cluster parish of St Peter and St Luke. Our choirs are on half term holiday Guidebook The new Cathedral Guidebook will be launched after the 6pm Eucharist this evening. Refreshments will be available after the service and the guidebook will be available for the special price of £4.00 (normal price £4.50). The List for the next four weeks is available giving details of services and events. NEWS Cathedral Council Kate Branigan QC has accepted the Bishop’s invitation to become Chairman of the Cathedral Council. Kate lives and worships in Hambledon, where she sings in the church choir. Her professional practice is in family law where she is now a senior barrister in London after 18 years more locally in the Western Circuit. Cathedral Jazz evening raised a marvellous £2722.71 for the EC Roberts Centre and the Cathedral – many thanks to everyone who supported this and congratulations to all those who worked so hard to organise it, their labours richly rewarded by such an excellent result. Alan Lihou Warmest congratulations to Alan of the Cathedral Innovation Centre who this week was awarded a Civic Award by the Lord Mayor in recognition of outstanding voluntary service to our city. Alan has raised £200,000 for the Rowan’s Hospice and is seen in weather foul and fair collecting for this charity which cared for his parents. He is a regular helper for ‘Messy Church’ and its founder even says in her book about the initiative that ‘every Messy Church needs an Alan’ to look after all the practical actions. Alan has helped the Cathedral Innovation Centre launch 35 firms creating innumerable jobs and hope through his sustained generosity. NOTICES Adam Bullivant Adam, our former assistant verger, has been accepted as a long-term volunteer in the Taizé community in France. You can read about Adam’s life in Burgundy in the letter which is available in the Welcome Area. Canon Michael Canon Michael’s final service in the Cathedral as Residentiary Canon will be Sunday 5 July at 10.30am. Donations towards a leaving present can be sent to the Cathedral Offices in clearly marked envelopes please. EVENTS An Introduction to Political Philosophy If you were unable to attend the sessions, the presentations from them are on the website. Pilgrim Course Module 3 - We will be offering the third module of the Pilgrim course looking at ‘The Commandments’ on Tuesday afternoons between 2pm and 3.30pm starting on Tuesday 2 June in the Bishop Kenneth Room. An Acceptable Prophet - Six sessions looking at Old Testament Prophets and what they might have to say to us today in light of the recent General Election. The Friends of Portsmouth Cathedral have organised an evening with the artist, Annie Cattrell, after her work ‘Brink’ is rehung in the Chapel of Healing and Reconciliation. Non-members welcome, Tickets £7.00 from the Cathedral Shop. Lunchtime Live No Recital 28 May. Next recital will be Thursday 4 June at 1.10pm, featuring our very own Jason Howard (counter-tenor.)
