PRELUDE Meaghan King, organist *CALL TO WORSHIP Dr. Mark Smutny Real peace is not something we automatically wake up with in the morning. Real peace with God is a verb. ANNE) ..............J.S Bach (1685-1750) See the music note on page 5. One: Lord, how magnificent is your name in all the earth! All: Praise the Creator! One: Who are we that you are mindful of us? Forgive us, O God, and restore us according to your divine wisdom, that we may be a delight to you and rejoice before you always. Amen. Bradbury, 1863 OUR THANKSGIVING PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE The Rev. Renée Roederer THE LORD’S PRAYER in Unison OFFERING OF TITHES AND GIFTS Dr. Mark Smutny OFFERTORY ANTHEM The Kirk Choir Meaghan King, organist Dr. Timothy Howard, conductor Mozart’s Mass in C, K. 167, was written in 1773 and was premiered at Salzburg's Trinity Church on June 5 of that year, which was likely Trinity Sunday that year. Mozart had just been named court musician for Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo and was beginning a prolific period of composition during his time in Salzburg. This is Mozart's only wholly choral mass setting, excluding all solo vocalists. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. GLORIA FROM MASS IN C, K. 167)............................W.A. Mozart (MASS IN HONOR OF THE HOLY TRINITY) (1756-1791) Sung in Latin. Translation: Peace on earth to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. ANNE The hymn tune St. Anne is attributed to English composer William Croft (16781727) and is named for St. Anne’s Church in Soho, where Croft was organist from 1700-1711. Although there is no written evidence that Bach heard the tune, the first eight notes of the theme of his Fugue in E-flat Major duplicate the opening line of the hymn tune.
