2016-2017 Budget Proposal to Eliminate Health Care Coverage for
2016-2017 Budget Proposal to Eliminate Health Care Coverage for Non-Certified School district employees working less than 30 hours per week. Non-Certified staff are a critical part of each students’ day. Bus drivers bring students to and from school safely and on time. Food service school team members prepare and provide students and staff nutritional needs throughout the school day. Custodians are essential personnel that maintain a clean and safe learning environment for all children. While they may be considered part-time, each deliver a full day’s work at every school in the state of Georgia. Health care benefits are a key part of being able to do their jobs. Taking away health coverage in the State Health Benefits Plan presents a significant hardship for these essential personnel. These non-certified staff members are a critical part of the education delivery team and support the work of those in the classroom. Access to the SHBP is not an entitlement; it is a work place benefit that is paid for through the local school districts. Allowing non-certified staff to deliver these important and critical needs to children for their learning to be successful is honest work. Please ensure that non-certified school district employees who work less than 30 hours have access to the SHBP.
